Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

ROME, GA - The Lakewood BlueClaws (14-17/40-58) struggled early, couldn't come back, and fell 10-2 to the Rome Braves (12-18/48-51) Monday night at State Mutual Stadium. The loss marked the second in a row for Lakewood and dropped the season series to 4-2 in favor of the BlueClaws.

Jeb Stefan took the mound for Lakewood and maneuvered through the first two innings with relative ease, but the Braves picked up a pair of runs against him in the third.

With one out, Ross Heffley singled to left and Kyle Wren followed with a triple to right-center and put Rome in front 1-0. Wren was then driven home on a sacrifice fly by the next batter Jose Peraza to make it 2-0.

Stefan (3-5) gave up a pair of hits in the fourth, but the Braves waited until the fifth inning to pad their lead. Daniel Carroll hit a groundball to short that Jonathan Roof misplayed and reached via the E6, Roof's second error of the game. Then, the floodgates opened for Rome.

With the bases loaded and one out, Eric Garcia hit a single to make it 3-0. A sac-fly made it 4-0, before Carlos Franco tanked a double to center and made it 6-0 in the blink of an eye. All of the runs in the inning were unearned.

Chase Anselment stepped in next for the Braves and on the first pitch of the at-bat, he hit a two-run blast into the BlueClaws bullpen and made it 8-0 at the end of the fifth. The scoring continued with two more runs in the sixth against Kevin Walter and capped off the offensive output at 10-0.

Rome's starter Jason Hursh allowed just a walk over three innings and Patrick Scoggin tossed three shutout innings behind him and the BlueClaws did not score until the eighth.

Villalobos singled and moved around to third before he scored on a wild pitch for the first run and Jonathan Roof plated a run with a single to make it 10-2 after eight.

Hursh, a first-round pick (31st overall), made his fourth start and his three innings marked the longest of the four thus far. Scoggin (7-4) earned the win with his three innings of relief.

Stefan allowed the eight runs, two earned, on 10 hits he didn't walk anyone and struck out two. Walter gave up the two runs on three hits in the sixth. Zach Cooper pitched two perfect innings to finish it off.

Deborah Heart and Lung Center Player of the Game: Chase Anselment (ROM): 2-4, HR, 2RBI

The Claws and Braves will have a quick turnaround and will square off at 1 pm on Tuesday afternoon from State Mutual Stadium. RHP Jonathan Musser (1-5, 5.40) will take on RHP Lucas Sims (4-4, 3.28) of the Braves.
