Tides Can't Hold off Knights

Norfolk Tides News Release
The Charlotte Knights rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to knock off the Tides 7-5 in front of 6,060 fans Sunday night at Harbor Park.
Norfolk plated four runs on five hits in the first inning to jump out to the early lead, as Eric Thames, Alex Liddi, Ronny Paulino and Chris Snyder all had RBI singles. One inning later, Charlotte cut the deficit in half on a two-run single by Michael Earley off of Tides starter Kevin Gausman.
The score stayed 4-2 until the fifth inning, as Tyler Greene belted a two-run home run off of Chris Jones to tie the score. The home run was just the second allowed this season for Jones, who had entered the game with a 0.66 ERA over his last nine appearances.
Charlotte took the lead one inning later, as former Tide Travis Ishikawa lined a two-run double into left field off of Tim Alderson (3-2). Alderson, who was making his Harbor Park debut after being acquired from Pittsburgh just before the All-Star break, also yielded a run in the seventh inning when Andy Wilkins singled and eventually scored on a groundout by Earley.
Trailing 7-5, Norfolk brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning against Deunte Heath, but Heath struck out Thames with Zelous Wheeler on second to end the contest and give the Knights a sweep of the two-game set.
Gausman, making his first appearance since a relief outing on July 14, surrendered two runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of work. The 22-year-old walked two and struck out four, throwing 41 of his 70 pitches for strikes.
Thames and L.J. Hoes each had three hits to lead Norfolk's 12-hit attack, while Snyder added two hits and two runs batted in.
The Tides will welcome the Pawtucket Red Sox to town Monday night in the start of a four-game series. Zach Britton (3-3, 4.06) is slated to take the hill for Norfolk against Pawsox left-hander Chris Hernandez.
Notes: The four-run lead tied the largest Norfolk has blown in a loss this season, matching a loss at Gwinnett on July 8...L.J Hoes made a running catch against the wall in the first inning, robbing Jordan Danks of an extra-base hit...Former Tide Travis Ishikawa finished with two hits and two RBI...Manny Delcarmen struck out four in two scoreless innings of relief.
