Dayton Dragons News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa-Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Brett Lee fired a nine-inning complete game, allowing just five hits, as the Kernels defeated the Dayton Dragons 7-1 on Friday night. The Kernels snapped the Dragons three-game winning streak and avoided a sweep of the series. The Dragons fell to 11-11 in the second half with the loss while Cedar Rapids improved to 14-7.
Lee walked one and struck out three to earn the win. He faced just four batters over the minimum.
Cedar Rapids took a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Adam Brett Walker blasted his 15th home run of the season with two men on base. They added four more in the third to take a 7-0 lead. The Dragons scored their only run in the sixth when Beau Amaral double to left field with one out and scored on Daniel Pigott's single to right.
The Dragons bats were cooled after they scored 25 runs on 29 hits in winning the first two games of the three-game series. Tanner Rahier had a double to the fence in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to 11 straight games, tying Junior Arias for the Dragons longest of 2013.
Dragons starting pitcher Nick Travieso (3-2) worked the first two and one-third innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. He suffered the loss to fall to 3-3.
Dragons reliever Wandy Peralta replaced Travieso and was exceptional. He retired all 17 batters he faced over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five.
