New League, New Name/Logo, Same Great Football

July 12, 2013 - Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL)
Lakeland Raiders News Release

July 7th 2013 marked a new chapter in the history of the Raiders organization.

Several changes were announced as the team prepares for their third season at the Lakeland Center.

Fans, sponsors, media and staff lined the Lake Parker room of the Lakeland Center with anticipation. Founder/ Co-owner Michael Mink took to the podium with one mission, honor thy Raider.

A slideshow recep of the 2013 season ended bearing the teams new name, the Florida Marine Raiders. A makeover of the logo embodies the true purpose and meaning of the teams new name.

"The team has always been about the Marine Raiders, people just didn't know the history. It was just another example of the word not being out there, but we plan to change that once and for all," commented Mink.

The Florida Marine Raider's inception comes after the team joined the Xtreme Indoor Football League. The XIFL has different opponents, more opponents, and a fresh new game. Kicking? Forget about it, that's all a thing of the past (Other rule changes can be found at the teams website). A new league, new name and refreshed mindset had the crowd thrilled.

The team will be recruiting more local players heading into 2014. There needs to be more interaction with the fans, community and youth, which has been recognized.

The team also gave out awards at the press conference most symbolizing an actual military commendation. The following is a list of awars and recipets from the event:

Medal of Honor- Kendrick Stewart

Navy Cross- Jim Preston

Silver Star- Robert Tannenbaum

Distinguished Service Cross- Roger Todd

Gunny Award- Jeff Bingle

Dorothy Mink Award- Fran Grenda

Coach Mink Award- Bill and Julie Bancroft

Michael Mink was presented with the Soldiers Medal for all his efforts with the team. He was also informed that the Thunderbolt's banners would be removed so he could hang his personal jersey, which was retired earlier in the evening.

The team is truly at home in Lakeland and inside the Jenkins Arena. There might be a few teaks in the look of the team, but Raider football shall always standfast.

The team will be releasing more information on ticket and advertising opportunities this coming Monday. Check out our new website or Facebook for more great detais on the future of the Florida Marine Raiders.
