Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Urban gets first professional win

IronBirds' RHP Austin Urban got his first professional win last night after pitching 5.2 innings of solid relief. He retired the final ten batters he faced after coming into the game in the top of the third inning. He allowed just two hits (two singles, both in the 5th inning), did not walk a batter and struck out four. Offensively for Aberdeen, Kris Richards had himself a nice game. He was 3-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored as the IronBirds took the series from State College and will go for a sweep tonight.

FOUR!

The IronBirds have won four series in a row, all of them coming in the month of July. Aberdeen swept Hudson Valley to start the month before taking two of three from both Brooklyn and Tri-City. They can get a sweep of State College with a win tonight. The IronBirds swept a season series once before from State College, going 3-0 back in 2008.

14 games is a really, really long time!

Jared Breen extended his hitting streak to 14 games last night with a single in the third inning. He would later come around to score the second run of the game. During the streak, Breen is batting .310 (18-58). His streak now stands alone in third place in franchise history at 14 games, and he can tie Joe Nowicki with a hit tonight. The record is 17 games, set by Brandon Fahey, when his streak lasted from June 30-July 17, 2002.

Shutting Down the Opposition

State College came into Aberdeen on a four game winning streak and winners in six of their last seven games. The IronBirds' bullpen has held the Spikes to just two runs and ten hits in 18 innings so far this series. The Spikes had only been held to fewer than two runs twice coming into this series, and one of those two times came in the first game of a seven inning double header.

On the mound tonight...

RHP Dyland Rheault will get the ball tonight for Aberdeen. Tonight will be his second start and his fourth appearance on the season. Rheault was drafted in the 19th round of this year's draft out of Central Michigan University. In his last appearance, Rheault went three innings against the Brooklyn Cyclones. He allowed four hits, one run, and one walk, while striking out one. He would not factor into the decision, as the IronBirds lost 5-3. The Spikes will send out Juan Bautista. Bautista has an 0-2 record with a 3.54 ERA.
