Columbus Clippers News Release

The Clippers took advantage of fielding miscues by Toledo as they came away with a 10-3 blowout win over the Mud Hens at Huntington Park.

Columbus drew first blood on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with a Matt Carson RBI sacrifice fly. That lead would later triple in the second with a Roberto Perez RBI double down the left field line and an Ezequiel Carrera scorched liner that bounced off the glove of Toledo third baseman Mike Cervenak.

The Hens would put together a big fourth inning to get back into this game. A solo homer by Avisail Garcia and a two run shot by Danny Dorn tied the game at 3-3. Columbus would respond in the fifth when Matt Carson drove home Chun with an RBI double to center.

Another run would score in the frame on a strikeout gone wrong for the Hens. Juan Diaz swung and missed for strike three in third at-bat of the night. The ball got away from Toledo catcher Bryan Holaday. Holaday's throw to first hit Juan Diaz square in the back and the ball richocheted towards the Clippers bullpen, allowing Carson to score from second.

After another Hens error, one committed by shortstop Argenis Diaz, Nate Spears crushed a three run bomb that landed beyond the Wendy's Hamburger Balcony. By the time the inning ended, nine batters saw action at the plate, five runs had crossed the plate, and Columbus had an 8-3 advantage over Toledo.

In the eighth, Carerra plated another run for Columbus with an RBI triple down the right field line. That was quickly followed by a Chun Chen RBI double. From there, the Clippers bullpen took care of business. Bryan Price (S, 1) struck out four in the final 3 1/3 innings. Carlos Carrasco (W, 3-0) got the win for the Clippers. Mat Hoffman (L, 4-3) took the loss for Toledo.

The Hens and Clippers will complete their short tow game series at Huntington Park on Friday night. Columbus will hand the ball to righty Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-5, 5.01). Toledo will counter with lefty Kyle Lobstein (1-1, 4.80). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
