All-Time Wins Leader Purchased by Braves
July 12, 2013 - American Association (AA) - Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- Wichita Wingnuts' left-handed pitcher Ryan Hinson was purchased by the Atlanta Braves' organization on Thursday afternoon.
In 10 starts this season, Hinson was 7-2 with a league-best 1.53 ERA. Hinson also ranks seventh in the American Association with 57 strikeouts. The 26-year-old lefty allowed two or fewer earned runs in nine of 10 starts and did not allow more than three earned runs in any of them. Hinson was named the American Association's Pitcher of the Month for June.
"This is great news and well-deserved for 'Hinsy'," said Wingnuts' manager Kevin Hooper. "He's earned this opportunity to get back to affiliated ball. He has been a huge part of our organization for three years and we wish him nothing but the best."
A native of Rock Hill, SC, Hinson threw a complete game, six-hit shutout last Saturday versus Amarillo to become the Wingnuts' all-time leader in wins (27). Hinson also ranks first in team history with 234 strikeouts. During his three seasons in Wichita, Hinson was a combined 27-15 with a 3.58 ERA over 51 starts and three relief appearances.
Hinson is expected to report to the Braves' High-A Carolina League affiliate in Lynchburg, VA.
Hinson is the second player the Wingnuts have sold to a Major League organization this year and the 18th all-time.
