Four-Run First Downs Express in 4-2 Loss

PAPILLION, NE - Four runs in the first inning held strong for the Omaha Storm Chasers (43-51) as the Round Rock Express (52-43) suffered its second straight loss, 4-2, Thursday night at Werner Park.

Express starter Alexi Ogando allowed four runs to the Storm Chasers, all in the first inning, as Omaha tagged the rehabbing right-hander for four hits including a two-out, two-run home run off the bat of catcher Brett Hayes in the first frame.

Starring a four-run deficit in the face, the pitching staff buckled down and Ogando settled in. He allowed just one hit over the next 3.0 innings to hold the Omaha offense in check. Ogando finished the night after throwing 66 pitches (41 strikes) in his second rehab appearance with the Express.

Right fielder Jared Hoying helped Round Rock climb back into the game when he blasted a solo shot in the top of the fifth to cut the Storm Chaser lead to just three. Third baseman Mike Olt followed with a double and moved to third on first baseman Chris McGuiness' single but the runners were stranded when Omaha starter Brain Sanches retired the next two batters in the Express lineup to end the inning.

The E-Train bullpen was dominant with the combination of right-hander Ryan Rodebaugh and southpaw Ryan Feierabend holding the Storm Chasers to just one hit and one walk over the final four innings.

The offense put together two late rallies in the eighth and ninth. With six outs to work with, Round Rock strung together a series of hits in the eighth, started by McGuiness' knock to leadoff the frame. After a strikeout, shortstop Leury Garcia singled to put runners on first and second with one out. Center fielder Jim Adduci went down on strikes but second baseman Yangervis Solarte delivered a two-out RBI single, plating McGuiness and pulling Round Rock within two at 4-2. The inning would come to a close after designated hitter Manny Ramirez flew out, ending the threat.

Again in the ninth, Round Rock's offense awoke with two outs when Olt ripped his second double of the night. McGuiness worked a walk, putting the tying run on base, but catcher Jose Felix grounded out to end the game.

Sanches (5-2) earned the victory after giving up just one run over 5.0 innings on the mound while Ogando (0-1) suffered his first loss.

The Express and Storm Chasers continue a four-game series in Papillion, NE Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Jake Brigham (3-1, 4.25 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Round Rock.
