Asheville, NC - The Asheville Tourists (9-10) used a three-run home run in the sixth inning to win the regularly scheduled game on Thursday over the Delmarva Shorebirds (8-13), 5-2, at McCormick Field. The Tourists also won the suspended game from the night prior, 3-2.

The Shorebirds have lost five games in a row.

The Shorebirds trailed the Tourists 1-0 into the third inning as the game resumed on Thursday.

The Tourists scored in the bottom of the third against Matt Hobgood, who took over for Juan Guzman. Jason Stolz led off with a double to center field and later scored on a single by Dillon Thomas to stretch the lead to 2-0.

The Shorebirds pulled within one in the fifth inning. Roderick Bernadina led off with a double to deep left field. After a bunt single by Adrian Marin, Bernadina scored on a single to left field by Gregory Lorenzo.

Hobgood went three innings and allowed five hits and one run. He struck out four with one walk.

In the sixth inning, Asheville took a 3-1 lead with a run against new reliever Mark Blackmar.

The Shorebirds tacked on a run in the seventh to again pull within one. Lorenzo, who had three hits, singled to lead off the inning. George Barber singled to left and Lucas Herbst walked to load the bases. Two batters later, Creede Simpson avoided the double play on a grounder to short and Lorenzo scored.

The Shorebirds had opportunities in the eighth and ninth innings to score, but could not cash in. The first two men reached in the eighth and the Shorebirds had the bases loaded and one out in the ninth, but failed to score.

Blackmar yielded three hits and one run in three innings of relief.

Ryan Arrowood earned the win over four innings. He allowed five hits and one run.

In the second game, the Shorebirds jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first on a two out double to left field by Nik Balog.

After Asheville tied the game with a run in the first, the Shorebirds regained the lead in the fourth. Steel Russell and Adrian Marin hit back-to-back singles. With two outs, Lorenzo hit a chopper to short that rose over the glove of Herrera and into center, allowing Russell to score.

The Tourists tied the game in the fourth on a home run to right-center field by Francisco Sosa.

In the sixth inning, Shorebirds starter Luc Rennie issued back-to-back one out walks. With two outs, Ben Waldrip hit a three-run homer to right-center field to put the Tourists in front 5-2.

Rennie pitched well in his debut, holding the Tourists to two runs on six hits over the first five innings.

Asheville starter Ben Hughes tossed a complete game to earn the win. He surrendered seven hits and one earned run.

The Shorebirds head to Lexington, Kentucky to begin a four-game series against the Lexington Legends on Friday, July 12.
