July 11, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release
The Padres scored three runs in the final three innings Wednesday, but the Tacoma Rainiers held on to defeat Tucson 6-5 at Kino Stadium. Tucson finished the homestand with a 4-3 record and maintains a 2.5 game lead on top of the Southern Division.
Back-to-back doubles from Ty Kelly and Stefen Romero in the top of the first put the Rainiers ahead 1-0. After Gregorio Petit led off the bottom of the second with a double to left, Cody Decker drove him in with a double of his own to tie the score at one. Petit has hit safely in 12 consecutive games after going 3-for-4 Wednesday. Decker later scored that inning on a double play to give Tucson its only lead of the game. Carlos Peguero knotted the score at two in the third with a sacrifice fly to left.
Tacoma then struck for three runs in the fourth aided by two Padre throwing errors to go up 5-2. Carlos Triunfel's opposite field triple in the fourth scored Nate Tenbrink to extend the Rainiers lead to four runs. The Padres brought around two runs in the seventh on an error and Eddy Rodriguez's RBI infield single. Decker's sacrifice fly to left in the eighth cut Tacoma's lead to one run.
Brian Sweeney earned his eighth win of the season after scattering eight hits and allowing four runs in 6.1 innings. Reliever Matt Lollis lost his first game with the Padres after yielding four hits, two earned runs and two walks. Brandon Kloess went three innings, allowing two runs in a spot start for Tucson.
Next Game: Thursday, 7:05 p.m. at Las Vegas (Mets affiliate) - Tucson RHP Anthony Bass (2-2, 7.02) vs. Las Vegas RHP Rafael Montero (1-2, 4.65). Game coverage begins at 6:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com.
