Wager Controls Rocks in Keys Win

July 10, 2013 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys jumped out to a three-run first inning and never looked back, on the shoulders of RHP Brady Wager whose seven solid innings led the Keys to a 6-1 win Wednesday night. Wager allowed just a run on three hits in his second Carolina League victory.

Frederick got it going from the get-go as CF Johnny Ruettiger hit the game's first pitch into the right-center field alleyway for a triple. Two batters later the Keys were on top when DH Nicky Delmonico singled home the first run. The Keys would get RBI-hits from 1B Christian Walker and CF Glynn Davis later in the inning to lead 3-0.

Wager walked the first batter of the game and then settled in. The sinker-baller enticed ground balls throughout the night getting 12 ground ball outs as opposed to three fly ball outs. He threw 96 pitches in the sterling seven-inning effort.

Leading 4-1 in the seventh inning, the Keys opened it up. With C Michael Ohlman at first base and 2B Jerome Pena at second and two down, Walker singled to left field with the runners going with the pitch. Pena scored with ease as the throw came to third base. It caromed off the helmet of Ohlman into the stands allowing him home for a 6-1 Keys lead.

LHP Ashur Tolliver entered and worked a scoreless two innings in his 2013 Keys debut to finish the game. CF Glynn Davis added two hits in the win. The Keys are now three games behind Wilmington for the Wild Card in the Northern Division.

Frederick looks for a series split, Thursday, July 11th with RHP Zach Davies getting the starting nod. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning 30-minutes prior on 1450-AM The Source.

The Keys are back in town for eight games in nine days starting Friday, July 12th at 7:00 p.m. against Carolina. All fans can enter a drawing to win a free hot tub courtesy of Browning Pools & Spas. Fireworks will follow the game presented by Lavida Massage and Browning Pools & Spas.
