SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has re-signed goaltender Alex Stalock to a one-year contract.
In 2012-13, Stalock played 38 games with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL and posted a 2.60 goals against average, .912 save percentage and two shutouts. Stalock became the all-time leader in Worcester Sharks goalie wins when he secured his 75th victory on Apr. 9, 2013 at Bridgeport, making 32 saves in the 3-0 shutout victory. Along with holding the distinction of being the franchise leader in wins (finishing the year with 76), Stalock was named the Worcester Sharks 3 Stars Award winner.
Stalock made two appearances in relief for San Jose this season, making 11 saves and posting a 2.60 goals against average.
Stalock missed the majority of the 2011-12 season due to injury, returning to game action on Jan. 21, 2012 with the Stockton Thunder. In six games with Stockton, he posted a 5-1-0 record with a 2.83 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. After being recalled to the American Hockey League, he appeared in five total games between Worcester and Peoria. At the AHL level, he combined to post a 3-1-0 record with a 1.87 goals against average, a .932 save percentage and one shutout.
In 2010-2011, Stalock posted a 2.63 GAA and a .907 save percentage in 41 games played with Worcester. He also made his NHL debut, earning a relief win on Feb. 2 vs. Phoenix stopping all nine shots that he faced.
During the 2009-10 season, he was an AHL All-Star, named to the AHL-All Rookie Team, and recognized as the Worcester Sharks Team MVP.
The 25 year-old Stalock has appeared in 145 regular season career games with Worcester, posting a 78-53-10 record to go along with a 2.60 goals against average, .909 save percentage and seven shutouts.
The six-foot, 190-pound native of St. Paul, MN was selected by San Jose in the fourth round (112th overall) in the 2005 NHL Draft.
SHARKS RE-SIGN FORWARD MATT PELECH
SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has re-signed forward Matt Pelech to a one-year contract.
In 2012-13, Pelech played two games with San Jose, registering seven penalty minutes. Pelech played in 58 games with the Worcester Sharks in the AHL, logging seven points (three goals, four assists), 238 penalty minutes and 17 fighting majors. Pelech's 238 penalty minutes set a single season Worcester record and ranked 5th overall in the entire AHL.
In 2011-12, Pelech played 59 games for Worcester, posting eight points (one goal, seven assists), 168 penalty minutes and 16 fighting majors. In addition, he earned the Worcester Sharks "UnSung Hero" 2011-12 Team Award and served as an alternate captain.
The 25 year-old Pelech has played in 7 career NHL games with Calgary and San Jose, recording three assists and 16 penalty minutes. In 354 career AHL games, Pelech has registered 48 points (15 goals, 33 assists) and 1000 penalty minutes.
The six-foot-five, 220-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was signed by San Jose as a free agent on July 6, 2011. He was originally selected in the first round (26th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2005 NHL Draft.
SHARKS SIGN DEFENSEMAN ROB DAVISON
SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed defenseman Rob Davison to a one-year contract.
In 2012-13 Davison played 53 games with EC Red Bull Salzburg.in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga, the highest-level men's ice hockey league in Austria. He posted nine points (three goals, six assists) and 54 penalty minutes with the club.
During 2011-12 Davison split time between Red Bull Salzburg and HC Ocelari Trinec in the Czech Extraliga, playing a combined 33 games between the two clubs. He registered seven points (one goal, six assists) and 47 penalty minutes in these games.
Prior to playing in Europe Davison enjoyed seven years in the NHL that began when he was selected by San Jose at the 1998 NHL Draft. Davison played in 176 games for the Sharks from 2002-03 to 2007-08, registering 14 points (two goals, 12 assists), a +2 rating, and 238 penalty minutes. Furthermore, Davison was part of the 2003-04 Sharks team that advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history.
On Feb. 26, 2008 Davison was traded to the New York Islanders in exchange for a seventh round selection (186th overall) at the 2008 NHL Draft, a pick the Sharks used to select defenseman Jason Demers.
In 219 career NHL games with the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, and San Jose, the 33 year-old Davison has posted 18 points (three goals, 15 assists), and 321 penalty minutes.
The six-foot-three, 220-pound native of St. Catherines, Ontario was originally selected by San Jose in the fourth round (98th overall) of the 1998 NHL Draft.
SHARKS SIGN DEFENSEMAN ADAM COMRIE
SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed defenseman Adam Comrie to a one-year contract.
In 2012-13 Comrie split time between the Reading Royals of the ECHL and the Worcester Sharks. In 24 games with Worcester, Comrie posted 15 points (three goals, 12 assists), a +2 rating and 24 penalty minutes.
During 45 games with Reading, Comrie logged 33 points (17 goals, 16 assists), a +22 rating and 106 penalty minutes. He finished 1st amongst all ECHL defenseman in goals (17) and 10th amongst all skaters in plus-minus (+22).
In 65 career games in the ECHL with the Greenville Road Warriors, Cincinnati Cyclones, and Reading, Comrie has posted 48 points (25 goals, 23 assists), a +22 rating and 128 penalty minutes.
The 22 year old Comrie has played in 68 career AHL games with the Rochester Americans and Worcester, recording 20 points (three goals, 17 assists) and 42 penalty minutes.
The six-foot-four, 215-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario was originally selected in the third round (80th overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2008 NHL Draft.
