July 10, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release

Today's Game: Oklahoma City and Round Rock conclude their three-game series with a 7:05 p.m. rubber match at Dell Diamond. RedHawks starting pitcher Brad Peacock will attempt to toss a sixth consecutive quality start.

Last Game: One night after being shutout and held to one hit, Round Rock broke out with 15 hits in an 11-8 win against the RedHawks Tuesday. The RedHawks offense also erupted with 17 hits, falling one shy of their season high. George Springer finished 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs. His two-run shot in the first inning helped the RedHawks build a 4-0 lead through the top of the second inning, but Round Rock's Jim Adduci cut the lead to one with a three-run homer. A second two-run shot by Springer in the third put Oklahoma City in front, 6-3, but Manny Ramirez pulled the Express within one run once again after he answered with a two-run homer. Down 7-5 in the fourth, the Express rallied with six runs on six hits to take the lead for good. Round Rock starting pitcher Evan Meek (3-4) earned the win despite allowing seven runs and 11 hits over five innings, and Wilmer Font earned his first save since getting promoted to Triple-A. RedHawks starter Wade LeBlanc (0-1) allowed nine runs and 11 hits in 3.1 innings in the loss.

Today's Probable Pitcher: Brad Peacock looks to win a third game in as many starts when he heads to the hill tonight...In his last start July 4 in New Orleans, Peacock recorded his fifth consecutive quality start, allowing one run over six innings. He scattered three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in the team's 2-1 win. The Zephyrs only run scored on a Nick Green solo home run in the second inning, and Peacock retired 10 consecutive batters immediately thereafter...Since returning to Oklahoma City June 12, Peacock has been phenomenal, posting five straight quality starts with a 1.44 ERA and a .209 opponent batting average. He's given up one or no earned runs in four of those starts and allowed one or no walks four times as well. The RedHawks have won all five outings and they are 7-2 in his starts overall this year...He's fared well away from OKC, going 4-1 with a 2.40 ERA in five starts...Peacock's only career game against Round Rock was May 22, 2012 when he was with the Sacramento River Cats. He picked up the loss after giving up seven runs and nine hits over 3.2 IP. The Express knocked him out of the game in the fourth after plating six runs in the frame.

Against the Express: 2013: 4-6 2012: 10-6 All-time: 72-65 In RR: 35-30

The Express and RedHawks conclude their first of two series at Dell Diamond tonight...The first eight games of the season between the teams were played at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Round Rock took five of eight and more than doubled its win total in OKC from 2012 (2)...During the previous series, June 14-17, the Express unloaded for 36 runs, scoring at least nine runs three times. They also bashed nine homers...The OKC pitching staff has an ERA close to seven (6.67) over their 10 contests against the Express...The RedHawks won 10 of 16 meetings with their division rivals in 2012...OKC has not lost the season series in five of the last six years...Round Rock is once again led by Bobby Jones, the legendary RedHawks skipper who compiled 595 wins and five division titles over eight seasons. He also managed the team when they were the 89ers in 1993-1994.

Express off the Rails: The RedHawks have had a tough time slowing down Round Rock's offense in their past six meetings. The Express has totaled 47 runs, scoring at least 11 runs three times and at least nine runs four times. OKC has allowed at least 11 runs in a game just one other time this season, occurring in a 12-2 loss in hitter-friendly Albuquerque on April 23. The nine runs allowed by RedHawks starting pitcher Wade LeBlanc last night were the second-most surrendered by an OKC starter this year. Ross Seaton gave up 10 runs in an 11-2 loss to the Express on June 14.

By George: Last night George Springer notched his second multi-homer game in the RedHawks past thee contests. He went 4-for-5 and became the third RedHawk this season with three extra-base hits in one game as well as the third player to collect five RBI. It was also astoundingly his third game already this season with five RBI. The 12 total bases he amassed shattered the team's previous 2013 individual high (Jonathan Villar, 9; June 16 vs. Round Rock). He is on a season-best 12-game hitting streak, batting .463 (19x41) with six home runs and 15 RBI. Since the streak began on June 28, he leads the PCL in all three major offensive categories and is tied with Randy Ruiz of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the most homers in all of the Minors. He is responsible for five of OKC's last six home runs.

Hip Hip, Jose: Jose Martinez is currently on a nine-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games. During the streak he is batting .351 (13x37) with four multi-hit games.

To the Max: Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell is currently with the RedHawks on rehab assignment and is 1-for-7 through his first two games. He is recovering from a concussion he sustained while attempting to make a diving catch against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 25. In an injury-plagued season, Maxwell is batting .235 with one home run and six RBI over just 28 games with Houston.

Lot of O, but no W: Yesterday the RedHawks lost for just the third time this season when scoring at least seven runs, and it was the first time such happened since a 10-8 loss in 15 innings against New Orleans on April 25. Additionally, the RedHawks matched the largest lead they possessed in a game they eventually lost. OKC also led 4-0 against Round Rock on April 16, but fell 8-6.

The Situation Room: Twice last night the RedHawks had a runner at third base with none out and did not score. They've failed to score after putting a runner at third with less than two outs four times this series and eight times over their last four games. The team has converted just once on similar opportunities over the same stretch of games.

When the Rubber Hits the Road: Due to most series in the PCL being four games in length, rubber matches are a rare occurrence. The RedHawks are 1-1 this season and were 2-1 in rubber games in 2012.
