Ducks Sign Veterans Stortini and Yonkman

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have signed right wing Zack Stortini and defenseman Nolan Yonkman to one-year contracts.

Stortini, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound forward, appeared in 73 games for the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs last season, posting two goals and six points with 241 penalty minutes. The veteran of eight professional seasons has appeared in 257 career NHL games between the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators, registering 14 goals and 41 points with 725 penalty minutes.

In 293 career AHL games between the Toronto Roadrunners, Iowa Stars, Milwaukee Admirals, Hamilton Bulldogs, Springfield Falcons and Oklahoma City Barons, Stortini has recorded 26 goals and 54 points with 924 penalty minutes. The 27-year-old native of Elliot Lake, Ontario, has also netted six goals and seven points with 87 penalty minutes in 50 career Calder Cup Playoff games. He won the 2007 Calder Cup with Hamilton.

Edmonton selected Stortini in the third round (94th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 247 career junior games with the OHL's Sudbury Wolves, netting 55 goals and 120 points with 746 penalty minutes. He served as Sudbury's team captain in each of his final three seasons.

Yonkman, a 6-foot-6, 253-pound defenseman, split last season between the NHL's Florida Panthers and the AHL's San Antonio Rampage. In eight games with the Panthers, Yonkman recorded 23 penalty minutes. He registered seven assists and 91 penalty minutes in 70 games with the Rampage. A veteran of 12 professional seasons, Yonkman has appeared in 74 career NHL games between the Panthers, Phoenix Coyotes and Washington Capitals, posting one goal and nine points with 152 penalty minutes.

Yonkman has served as his team's captain in each of his previous five AHL seasons (Milwaukee in 2008-09 and 2009-10, San Antonio from 2010-11 through 2012-13). The 32-year-old native of Punnichy, Saskatchewan, has appeared in 601 career AHL games between the San Antonio Rampage, Portland Pirates, Hershey Bears and Milwaukee Admirals, netting 16 goals and 79 points with 1,015 penalty minutes. He has also tallied five assists and 47 penalty minutes in 41 career Calder Cup Playoff games.

Washington selected Yonkman in the second round (37th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 259 career junior games between the WHL's Kelowna Rockets and Brandon Wheat Kings, registering 12 goals and 38 points with 431 penalty minutes.
