Colabello to Participate in Home Run Derby

Rochester, NY - Rochester Red Wings All-Star first baseman Chris Colabello has been named a participant in the 2013 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby, Triple-A Baseball announced on Tuesday. The home run derby will take place on Monday, July 15 at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nevada at 10:05 p.m. EST and will be aired live on MiLB.tv.

Colabello, who has already clubbed a career-high 21 home runs this season, will be joined by fellow IL sluggers Mauro Gomez (24 HR) of Buffalo and Gwinnett's Ernesto Mejia (21 HR).

Former Red Wing Brock Petersen (20 HR) of Memphis leads the Pacific Coast League contingent along with Fresno's Johnny Monell (15 HR) and Reno's Matt Davidson (12 HR).

Combined with his 19 home runs a season ago at New Britain, Colabello has amassed 40 home runs in his affiliated ball career. The 29-year-old hit 86 long balls over his seven-year career in the Independent Can-Am League - including 20 in 2011 when he was named Baseball America's Independent League Player of the Year.

The last Red Wings slugger to participate in the Triple-A Home Run Derby was Justin Huber in 2009 at PGE Park in Portland, Oregon. Huber hit four home runs in the first round but did not advance to round two.
