Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, WV, July 5, 2013): The West Virginia Power dropped game two of a three game series against the Lexington Legends by a 4-2 final. With the loss, the Power are winless for their fifth consecutive game and are winless in July.

Lexington scored the first run of the game in the second inning and also added another in the third to take a 2-0 lead.

West Virginia scored their runs of the game in the fifth inning. After Raul Fortunato led off the inning with a single, Francisco Diaz hit a ground ball to the Lexington third baseman, who threw a low ball to first, leading Diaz to reach base safely because of the error. Mark Threlkeld, the first baseman, threw the ball to third attempting to throw out an advancing Fortunato, but it got away from the third baseman, allowing Fortunato to score and Diaz to advance to third. Walker Gourley then hit an RBI groundout, scoring Diaz.

The Legends added their final two runs in the eighth inning to cap their scoring. The Power put the game tying runs on base in the ninth but were unable to plate any.

Bryton Trepagnier (3-3) took the loss in relief after allowing the two run eighth. Ali Williams (5-4) received the win. Mark Peterson picked up his tenth save of the season.

The four-game series continues Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. John Kuchno is scheduled to start for West Virginia against Lexington's Daniel Stumpf. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

Power Record: 45-41
