Eight BayBears Chosen for All-Star Game in Jacksonville

MOBILE, AL - Eight BayBears have been chosen to represent Mobile in the Southern League All-Star Game in Jacksonville, Florida. Mike Freeman (2B), Justin Greene (OF), Nick Evans (IF), Ender Inciarte (OF), Archie Bradley (P), Bradin Hagens (P), David Holmberg (P), and Kevin Munson (P), were all chosen to represent the Southern League South team on Wednesday, July 17.

Freeman is batting .264 in 284 at bats. The second baseman leads the team in stolen bases with 22 and is second in hits with 75. The 25 year-old is in his 4th professional baseball season, and has amassed 371 hits, 214 stolen bases and .293 batting average. This his his first All-Star bid.

Greene is currently ranked second in the Southern league in batting average at .311 in 212 at bats. The 27 year-old outfielder is tied for fourth in triples in the Southern League with six and is second on the BayBears in stolen bases with 20. This is is second All-Star selection. He was awarded a spot in 2010 while with the Class A Advanced Winston-Salem Dash in the Carolina League.

Evans was selected as the Southern League Player of the Week for May 13-19. His12 home runs ranks 4th in the Southern League and he leads the BayBears in RBI with 48. The infielder is batting .270 in 263 at bats this season. Evans has appeared in 159 Major League games in his career - all with the New York Mets - and has 8 Major League home runs. This will be the third appearance in a Minor League All-Star game for the 27 year-old. He was selected in 2008 and 2010 as a Double-A Eastern League All-Star. Evans has played in 815 minor league games over parts of 10 minor league seasons. In his minor league career he has amassed 195 doubles, 121 home runs, and 466 RBI while batting .275. Nick Evans has also been selected to represent Mobile in the Southern League Home Run Derby which will take place prior to the All-Star Game.

Inciarte started the month of May off as the Southern League Player of the week. The Maracaibo, Venezuela native is batting .277 in 285 at bats. He leads the team in hits with 79 and is tied for first in runs with 44. The 22-year-old is in his 6th season in professional baseball, and has amassed 554 career hits including 89 doubles and 26 triples. He is a career .286 hitter with 130 stolen bases. This will be Inciarte's second All-Star Game, he was selected in 2011 for the Midwest League while with the Class A South Bend Sliver Hawks.

Bradley was not only selected as a Southern League All-Star, but will also represent the Diamondbacks in the 2013 All-Star Futures Game in New York, New York on Sunday, July 14. The 20-year-old right-hander, has made 12 starts with Mobile, going 6-3. Bradley leads the Southern League in pitching with a 2.04 ERA in 70 innings pitched. He is the Diamondbacks No. 2 prospect and the No. 23 prospect in all of baseball according to MLB.com. This will be his second All-Star birth. He was selected in 2012 while with the South Bend Silver Hawks of the Midwest League.

Hagens leads the team in wins with 8 and is third in strikeouts with 59. The right-handed pitcher is 8-3 in 16 games started with a 2.81 ERA in 93 innings pitched. Hagens is in his 5th professional baseball season with a career record of 23-21 with a 4.08 ERA in 53 games started. This is the first All-Star bid for the Denair, Ca native.

Holmberg leads the Southern League in innings pitched with 102.2 and ranks 6th in the league with a 2.45 ERA. Through 16 starts this season the 21-year-old from Port Charlotte, Florida has a record of 4-4 and an ERA of 2.45. In 102.2 innings of work he has allowed 86 hits and only 28 earned runs. The lefty has struck out 72 while walking just 26. This will be Holmberg's third All-Star Game. He was selected in 2011 while with the Class A South Bend Silver Hawks and in 2012 while with the Class A Advanced Visalia Rawhide.

Prior to being promoted to "AAA" Reno, Munson collected 13 saves in 29 games while striking out 39 batters in 31.2 innings for the BayBears in 2013. This season was Munson's 3rd season in Mobile and this is his first Southern League All-Star Game selection.
