Braves Drop Fifth-Straight, Mobile Wins Sixth-Straight

PEARL, MS -- The Mobile BayBears plated four runs in the top of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and defeat the Mississippi Braves 6-1 at Trustmark Park Tuesday night. With the loss, the M-Braves drop its fifth-consecutive game while Mobile picks up its sixth-straight victory. The series finale and Independence Day Celebration is set for 7:00 PM Wednesday.

Mississippi (5-9, 43-41) plated one run on 10 hits while Mobile (9-5, 48-35) scored six runs on 12 hits. The BayBears committed one error. M-Braves starter Gus Schlosser limited the BayBears to one earned run on six hits and two walks. He struck out one batter in six innings of work but did not factor in the decision.

The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Christian Bethancourt walked and Jose Martinez singled to put runners at the corners. Robby Hefflinger then delivered his first Double-A hit, a ground-rule double to right field, giving the M-Braves an early advantage.

Mobile tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Garrett Weber singled and moved to second on a ground out. Keon Broxton followed with a RBI-single to right field, driving home Weber.

Ender Inciarte reached on a bunt single to start the top of the seventh. He then came in to score on a pinch-hit triple from Ryan Stovall, putting the BayBears out front 2-1. Mike Freeman and Nick Ahmed followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. A Dustin Martin ground ball to second allowed the M-Braves to cut down Stovall at home but a wild pitch allowed Freeman to score. Weber followed with a two-run triple to make it 5-1.

Martin blasted a solo homer to right-center to extended the BayBears lead to 6-1 in the ninth.

Mark Serrano (2-0) tossed two frames to pick up the win for the BayBears. Juan Jaime (2-3) took the loss, giving up four earned runs on three hits and two walks. He struck out one batter.

In Wednesday night's series finale, the M-Braves send right-hander Aaron Northcraft (3-6, 4.30) to the hill where he'll counter BayBears lefty David Holmberg (4-4, 2.45). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM. Following the game, the M-Braves will have a supersized fireworks show as part of the Independence Day Celebration.
