TODAYfS GAME: The Red Wings return home after a 10-game road trip looking to snap a three-game losing streak Monday night (7:05 p.m.) against the Syracuse Chiefs (Nationals) in the opener of a two-game set at Frontier Field... The Wings went 4-6 on their 10-game trip but finished their best month of the 2013 season 17-13... The Red Wings trail Norfolk (45-39) by 4.5 games in the Wild Card standings and Pawtucket by 10.5 games in the IL North. Meanwhile, the Chiefs won for the 4th time in their last 5 games but have still lost 13 of their last 20 affairs overall and sit 17.0 games back in the North and 11.0 GB in the Wild Card... The Wings will travel to Buffalo for a one-game gseriesh on Wednesday before returning to the Flower City on July 4th to open a four-game series against the Paw Sox.
WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:
¨Will snap a 3-game losing streak and avoid their first 4-game skid since a season-high 7-game losing streak 4/11-17.
¨Will win their 9th series opener of the season (8-16) and first in their last 5 series... The Wings have not lost a series this year when winning the opener (4-0-4).
GOING THE DISTANCE: LHP Pedro Hernandez (Saturday) and RHP Liam Hendriks (Sunday) both turned in complete game performances over the weekend in Syracuse, however both came in losing efforts... The Wings lead all of baseball (MiLB & MLB) with 9 complete game efforts this season (Potomac of the Carolina League and the St. Louis Cardinals each have 6)... Hernandez and Hendriks join Vance Worley (3), Kyle Gibson (2), Andrew Albers (1) and P.J. Walters (1) as the Wings hurlers with CGfs this season... The last time Rochester had 6 different pitchers record a CG in the same season was 2009... The 9 CGfs so far this year are the most in a season for the Wings since 2007 (15 CG)... Hernandezfs gem on Saturday was the first of his pro career while Hendriks turned in his 6th career CG, his 2nd as a member of the Red Wings (6/4/12 vs COL) and first since August 27, 2012 with Minnesota vs Seattle.
WHAT A MONTH!: Red Wings shortstop Doug Bernier made his case to be the starting shortstop for the IL squad at the 2013 Triple-A All-Star Game in Reno, NV with a tremendous month of June. Bernier batted .350 (35-for-100) with 14 XBH (10 2B, 3 3B & HR), 15 RBI and 21 runs in 29 games during June. He also had an OBP of .416 and a SLG of .540 for a .956 OPS in the month. He entered June hitting .256 with 5 XBH, 21 RBI and 18 runs in 51 games and an OPS of .646... Furthermore, Bernier committed just one error in June and currently leads all IL shortstops with a .988 fielding percentage (4 E in 343 TC). Only SYRfs Zach Walters has had more chances at SS this season and he has committed 19 errors.
CLUBBINf COLABELLO: Chris Colabello went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks on Sunday as he has now been held hitless in two consecutive games for just the second time in 71 games with the Red Wings this season - also April 15-16. He hasnft gone three straight games in the minors without a hit since 6/2-6/6/12 with New Britain -- a span of 155 games... In fact, since going three straight games without a hit, Colabello is batting .341 (201-589)... He was hitting just .209 over his first 50 games in affiliated ball... Despite going 0-for-his-last-8, Colabello still leads the IL in AVG (.359), SLG (.659), OPS (1.089) and RBI (65). He also ranks among league-leaders in OBP (2nd, .429), XBH (2nd, 41), TB (2nd, 178), HR (T-2nd, 20) and hits (3rd, 97).
BACK-TO-BACK BLANKINGS: The Wings were shutout for a 2nd consecutive game on Sunday, for the 3rd time during their 10-game road trip and 6th time in 2013. The Wings were also blanked in back-to-back games April 16-17 vs. SWB this season... Rochester is currently mired in a season-long 23-inning scoreless drought. The last run the Wings scored came courtesy of Chris Colabellofs solo home run in the 4th inning of Fridayfs game in Indianapolis... The good news for the Wings is that they scored 7 runs on 10 hits against tonightfs scheduled starter, Yunesky Maya, back on April 25 in SYR.
ROSTER MOVES: On Sunday, Red Wings catcher/outfielder Dan Rohlfing was transferred back to New Britain while RHP A.J. Achter was promoted to Rochester from Double-A for the first time in his career. Achter, a 46th round pick of the Twins back in 2010 out of Michigan State, was 2-0 with 3 saves and a 2.27 ERA (9 ER/35.2 IP) in 24 games with the Rock Cats. Over his last 15 games at NBR, Achter was 2-0 with 2 saves and 0.89 ERA (2 ER/20.1 IP) -- including a 15.0-inning streak from May 17-June 24 without allowing an earned run... Rohlfing, who hit .407 over his first 16 Triple-A games with the Wings, was just 5-for-32 over his last 10 games. Overall, the St. Louis, MO native hit .314 with 2 homers and 12 RBI in 26 games.
