International League Names Players of the Week

July 1, 2013 - International League (IL1) News Release

The International League announced today that Indianapolis outfielder Andrew Lambo and Lehigh Valley pitcher Ethan Martin have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from June 24-30. Lambo is the fourth member of the Indians to win an IL weekly award this season, following Brett Carroll (April 8-14), Andy Oliver (May 6-12), and Matt Hague (May 20-26). Martin is the second IronPigs player to be so honored in 2013, joining Adam Morgan (April 8-14).

ANDREW LAMBO, Indianapolis Indians IL BATTER OF THE WEEK

Doing most of his damage during a four-game series against Rochester, the Tribe's Andrew Lambo led the International League with three home runs and a 1.056 slugging percentage this week while finishing 2nd with a .500 batting average and a .609 on-base percentage. All nine of Lambo's hits came between Tuesday and Friday versus the Red Wings along with eight runs driven in and four runs scored during the series. Since being promoted from Double-A Altoona in early June, Lambo is hitting .314 with seven homers as a member of the Indians.

24-year-old Andrew Lambo is in his seventh season as a professional player and fourth with the Pittsburgh organization. His only previous experience playing above the Double-A level came with Indianapolis in 2011 when he hit .184 in 60 games. Lambo is a native of Newbury Park, California.

ETHAN MARTIN, Lehigh Valley IronPigs IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Right-hander Ethan Martin was the only International League pitcher to record two victories this week, and no IL pitcher bested his 14.0 innings pitched. Martin was masterful last Monday at Columbus, tossing 6.0 innings of three-hit, one-run baseball while matching his season-high with eight strikeouts in a 9-2 IronPigs win. Back home Sunday afternoon against Toledo, Martin turned in arguably his best outing of 2013. He lasted a season-high 8.0 innings, surrendering just two hits and three walks without giving up a run. Martin has now won four consecutive starts for the second time this season, and he is tied for the League-lead with nine total victories.

24-year-old Ethan Martin is in his fifth professional season and first full season with the Phillies organization after coming over from the Dodgers in last summer's trade that sent Shane Victorino to Los Angeles. Martin is a native of Athens, Georgia.
