ValleyCats Defeat CT Tigers

Troy, NY - The Connecticut Tigers (4-9) lost to the Tri-City ValleyCats (11-3) by a score of 6-2 Sunday night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The ValleyCats jumped onto the scoreboard in the first inning highlighted by a two-run homerun by LF Dan Gulbransen (2-3) to give Tri-City a 2-0 lead. Tigers C Austin Green (1-2) hit his first professional homerun in the third inning to cut the lead to 2-1.

In the third inning Tri-City 2B Tony Kemp (3-4) led the inning off with a walk and followed with a stolen base. 1B Conrad Gregor (1-3) hit an RBI single to left field that scored Kemp to give the ValleyCats a 3-1 lead. The ValleyCats added three more runs in the inning highlighted by a two-run single by C Jake Rodriguez (2-2) to take a 4-1 lead.

The Tigers attempted a rally in the ninth inning after DH Kasey Coffman (1-3) was hit by a pitch with one out. 3B Brett Harrison (2-4) added a single to left field to put runners on first and second with two outs. 1B Patrick Leyland (1-4) followed with an RBI single to left field that scored Coffman to make the score 6-2.

ValleyCats RHP Michael Feliz (2-1) pitched six innings allowing one run on three hits and struck out six batters. RHP Andrew Thurman picked up his first save of the season pitching three innings allowing one run on three hits and struck out six batters. Tigers LHP Preston Jamison (0-2) lost his second game of the season pitching 2.2 innings allowing six runs on three hits.

The Tigers start a three-game series with the Lowell Spinners starting tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. In game one of the series, RHP Buck Farmer (0-0, 0.00) takes the mound for the Tigers. RHP Simon Mercedes (0-0, 2.00) takes the mound for Lowell. Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com .
