Seattle Reign FC News Release

SEATTLE, WA - June 30, 2013 - Seattle Reign FC scored three second-half goals to get their first home win of the season, 3-1, over the Chicago Red Stars. The win moved Reign FC out of last place in the National Women's Soccer League, with Reign FC picking up seven points over the last seven days.

Seattle's first goal came in the 51st minute as defender Kaylyn Kyle scored her first goal of the season when she converted a penalty kick earned by forward Kennya Cordner. Cordner was slotted through on a pass by midfielder Jess Fishlock and was brought down from behind by Chicago defender Sonja Fuss. Kyle drilled a shot to the left side of the goal as Chicago goalkeeper and fellow Canadian Erin McLeod dove the other direction.

Seattle continued their scoring spree six minutes later as Fishlock got on the stat sheet for the second game in a row. She received a pass from forward Christine Nairn, who won the ball off a Chicago turnover. Fishlock then took a shot from the top of the Chicago penalty box that soared over a diving McLeod into the upper-left corner of the net to put Seattle up 2 - 0.

Chicago kept it interesting as they started to press Seattle's backline. They finally found a crack in the 84th minute when defender Megan Wenino scored a header goal off midfielder Julianne Sitch's service into the box.

Though Seattle gave up the goal, both the backline and goalkeeper Hope Solo showed a performance worthy of player of the week, highlighted by Solo's eight saves.

Despite Chicago's goal, Seattle was able to capitalize on Chicago's high pressure in the 93rd minute. A ball was cleared from the Seattle back line up to Nairn at midfield who turned up field with the ball and had a two-on-one with forward Megan Rapinoe. After taking it at the Chicago center back, she passed the ball off to Rapinoe who had a one- on-one with McLeod. After drawing McLeod off her line, Rapinoe slotted a finish into the right side of the goal, giving Seattle the 3 -1 lead.

Seattle will look to continue their win streak as they face Sydney Leroux and the Boston Breakers on Wednesday, July 3 at 7 p.m. at the Moda Pitch at Starfire Stadium.

If Seattle is able to beat Boston, they will be one point behind the fifth place Breakers, needing only two points to take sole possession of fifth place.

Tickets are still available for Wednesday's match at www.ReignFC.com.
