New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, announce that catcher AJ Jimenez has been named to participate for the World Team in the MLB Futures Game during MLB All-Star weekend.
Jimenez, 23, has hit safely in all 14 games he's played for the Fisher Cats this season. He began the year on the disabled list following season-ending Tommy John surgery last May. Since his return from the DL, he's hit .441 (26-for-59) with 7 doubles and 13 RBI.
Known more for his defense, Jimenez has already thrown out three of four would-be base stealers this season. For his career, he had thrown out 43% of base-stealers entering the season.
The San Juan, Puerto Rico native was the Blue Jays 9th round selection in the 2008 draft, and is currently listed as the Blue Jays 11th best prospect according to MLB.com.
This year will mark the 15th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, and will take place on Sunday, July 14 at 2pm at Citi Field in New York. It is the ninth time in ten years that the Fisher Cats have had at least one player make a Futures Game roster. The game can be seen on MLB.com, ESPN2, on MLB.com's GameDay, and on MLB Network's Radio XM 89. All 30 major league clubs will be represented. Anthony Gose, a member of the 2011 Eastern League champion Fisher Cats, was the Blue Jays' representative last year while playing in Triple-A.
The Fisher Cats are home through the weekend, with four games against the Future Red Sox, the Portland Sea Dogs. Three straight nights of Atlas Fireworks begin tonight, presented by Southern New Hampshire University.
