Reign FC Beats Boston Breakers 2-1 to Collect First Win of SeasonJune 27, 2013 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) - Seattle Reign FC Press Release
Both Seattle and Boston played an attacking style of play but were unable to get on the scoreboard in the first half. Heather O'Reilly led the Breakers in the first half, drilling a shot from 18 yards out in the 19th minute that forced a diving save out of goalkeeper Hope Solo.
Megan Rapinoe fed a through ball to Christine Nairn who found Teresa Noyola at the back post, but Noyola's bicycle kick attempt was saved by Boston's goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.
Boston opened the scoring in the 51st minute when Mariah Nogueria headed in a corner kick from Kathryn Schoepfer.
Seattle nearly equalized in 76th minute when Rapinoe stole the ball in the middle of the field and volleyed a long shot that Naeher had to jump backwards to deny.
Jess Fishlock put Seattle on the board in the 76th minute to tie the game. Rapinoe ripped a shot on goal that Naeher denied at the near post, but Fishlock was there to bury the rebound from close range.
The game-winning goal came from Nairn who found herself on the end of a Liz Bogus cross. Bogus dribbled behind the Boston defense and slotted a pass into the path of Nairn who blasted a shot past Naeher.
Reign FC will return home to Starfire on Saturday, June 29 for an 8pm match against the Chicago Red Stars. Prices for single match tickets are $26 for Premium Grandstand seating, $22 for Grandstand seating and $19 for Bleacher seating. Tickets can be purchased online at www.reignfc.com.
