Power Outlasts Hagerstown in 12

(Charleston, WV, June 26, 2013): The West Virginia Power defeated the Hagerstown Suns 7-6 in 12 innings Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. Max Moroff hit a walk-off single to give West Virginia a win on the final game of their homestand.

Both teams scored in the first inning. After Hagerstown took a 2-0 lead, West Virginia responded with four runs. Jordan Steranka drove in Dilson Herrera with a single, Max Moroff hit a two-run double, scoring Steranka and Walker Gourley, and D.J. Crumlich scored Moroff with an RBI single.

Hagerstown chipped away at the Power lead by scoring a run in the fifth on a Brandon Miller single. The Suns tied the game in the seventh after back-to-back doubles by Stephen Perez and Shawn Pleffner. The Suns took the lead on an RBI double in the top of the ninth.

With one out in the ninth, West Virginiatied the game. Barrett Barnes hit a solo home run over the left field wall to make it a 5-5 game. After the game went to extras, the Suns took a 6-5 lead in the 12th.

In the bottom of the 12th, Gourley led off the inning with a base hit and Steranka followed with a walk. Raul Fortunato laid down a sacrifice bunt, but the Hagerstown catcher Pedro Severino threw the ball away, allowing Gourley to score and tie the game. With the winning run on third, Moroff hit a 2-2 pitch down the right field line, scoring Steranka, and giving West Virginia the win.

Pat Ludwig (6-0) earned the win in relief for West Virginia after throwing three innings in relief. Cody Davis (1-1) receives the loss. Power starter John Kuchno pitched five innings, allowing three runs, and received a no-decision.

Tomorrow, West Virginia begins a seven-game road trip, playing four games in Lakewood, followed by their only series at Hagerstown for three games.
