Hendricks, Smokies Blank Generals Wednesday, 6-0

KODAK, Tenn. - Behind a masterful pitching performance by starter Kyle Hendricks, the Tennessee Smokies defeated the Jackson Generals, 6-0, Wednesday night at Smokies Park. With the win, the Smokies improve to 5-3 in the second half, 39-38 overall.

Hendricks (8-2) was once again dominant when pitching at Smokies Park. The right-hander picked up the victory allowing five hits with a walk and six strikeouts over eight scoreless innings of work. Hendricks lowered his overall ERA to 2.17 on the year and is now 5-0 with a 0.38 ERA when pitching at Smokies Park.

Christian Villanueva got the scoring started off Jackson starter James Gillheeney (3-3), belting his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field fence to give the Smokies an early 2-0 lead after two innings.

The Smokies put four additional runs up in the fifth inning when Rafael Lopez, Ronald Torreyes and Elliot Soto all reached on singles to load the bases. Matt Szczur and Bour both hit two-run RBI-singles to cap the scoring in the inning.

Zac Rosscup came in to pitch the ninth inning, giving up a hit and striking out one.

Villanueva led the Smokies' offense going 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Bour (1-for-2), Szczur (1-for-4) and Torreyes (1-for-4) all extended their hitting streaks to six games.

Tennessee and Jackson will play the fourth game of their five-game series on Thursday at 7:15 at Smokies Park. Righty A.J. Morris (2-0, 4.24) will toe the rubber for the Smokies facing off against Generals right-hander Chance Ruffin (4-2, 3.38).
