Hendricks Leads Smokies To Third Straight Win Over Generals

June 26, 2013 - Southern League (SL1) - Jackson Generals News Release

KODAK, Tenn. (June 26, 2013) - The Generals (3-5, 32-42) lost their third straight game Wednesday night, falling 6-0 to Tennessee (5-3, 39-38) at Smokies Park. The shutout marked the seventh of the season for Jackson as Smokies' starter Kyle Hendricks dominated the Generals for the third time this season.

Tenessee slugging first baseman Justin Bour led off the second inning with a walk, then one batter later, Christian Villanueva broke the scoreless tie with a long two-run homer to left.

The 2-0 Smokies lead was extended In the bottom of the fifth as Matt Szczur delivered a two-RBI single to center to strengthen the Smokies' lead to 4-0 over Jackson. Justin Bour then opened the flood gates with a two out two-RBI single to center to give Tennessee a 6-0 lead through five.

Offensively, the Generals' bats came alive in the top of the seventh as Leon Landry (2-3, 2 1B), Ji-Man Choi (1-4, 1B), and Steven Proscia (1-3, 1B) had back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases. However, Generals' catcher Mike Dowd (1-3, 1B) grounded into an inning ending double play.

The main reason the Generals bats did not produce was because of Kyle Hendricks. The Smokies' starter has had the Generals' number all season and continued his dominance Wednesday night. In three starts against Jackson this season, Hendricks is 3-0 with an ERA of 0.00, 17 strikeouts, in 21.2 innings of work against the Generals. Hendricks picked up the win on the mound after another outstanding performance against Jackson. James Gillheeney (L, 5.1,8,6,6,1,2,1) suffered the loss for the Generals. Relievers Stephen Kohlscheen and Nick Hill provided 2.2 innings of scoreless relief behind Gillheeney.

Game four of the series is Thursday with first pitch at 6:15 p.m. CST. Generals RHP Chance Ruffin (4-2, 3.38) will take the mound for Jackson and is opposed by Smokies' RHP A.J. Morris (2-0, 4.24). The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN Radio, TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
