Suns' Yelich Selected To All-Star Futures Game

June 26, 2013 - Southern League (SL1) - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - It was announced Wednesday that Jacksonville Suns outfielder Christian Yelich was selected to play in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 14 as part of MLB All-Star Weekend at Citi Field in New York, New York.

The California native will play for the United States squad in the United States versus World matchup. In 41 games this season for Jacksonville, Yelich owns a .262 average, adding six homers and 28 RBI. Rated by MLB.com as the Miami Marlins' top prospect, Yelich has been on the Disabled List since June 6 due to a lower abdominal strain.

This marks the second straight season Yelich has been selected for the Futures Game after playing in last year's contest in Kansas City, Missouri. The 21-year-old went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a walk in that game.

This year's edition of the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game will take place at 2:00 p.m. ET and can be seen live on MLB.com, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD. Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25-man rosters for each club.
