RedHawks score multiple runs in five different frames in lopsided victory

Oklahoma City, OK - Brett Oberholtzer was sharp through 7 2/3 innings and Jake Elmore collected four hits, drove in four runs and fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle as Oklahoma City upended Omaha, 11-2, Saturday night in the first of six meetings at Bricktown Ballpark. The Storm Chasers dipped to 32-42 but remained 4 1/2 games behind first-place Iowa in the American Conference North Division. Jimmy Paredes doubled three times and drove in a pair as part of a 17-hit attack that led the RedHawks to a fourth win in six tries against Omaha this season, including wins in all three games at home by a combined total of 24-5.

OKC loaded the bases with nobody out in the second inning against Justin Marks on a pair of singles with a walk sandwiched in between. Jose Martinez delivered a base hit to plate Elmore with the game's first run before Robbie Grossman grounded into a double play that pushed Jon Singleton across with the second run. The hosts added three runs, all with two outs, in the third on an RBI double by Elmore and Singleton's first Triple-A home run.

Brandon Laird opened the fifth with a double and scored when Elmore followed with a homer, his career-best fifth of the season, to extend the margin to 7-0. Elmore struck again in the sixth with a two-out base hit that scored Jonathan Villar to make it an eight run differential and spell the end of the night for Marks, who lost a sixth straight start after yielding 15 hits, issuing three walks and recording three strikeouts. George Sherrill took over and walked Singleton to fill the bases before committing a balk that allowed Brett Wallace to cross the plate to produce a nine-run cushion.

Trailing 11-0, Johnny Giavotella finally got Omaha on the board in the eighth with a two-out RBI single that knocked in Paulo Orlando and knocked Oberholtzer out of the game. The OKC southpaw, who recorded just one out in his prior start, allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits, while he walked one and fanned four in cruising to his fifth win of the season. Xavier Nady greeted Jose Valdez with a single that chased home Giavotella, who had advanced to second on a wild throw home by Grossman from center field.

The series continues with a doubleheader Sunday afternoon as left-hander Chris Dwyer will start game one and right-hander Brian Sanches will go for Omaha in the nightcap while OKC will counter with righties Brad Peacock in the opener and Brady Rodgers in his Triple-A debut in the second game.
