Galaxy Academy U-12âÂÂS and U-13âÂÂS Take Swallows Cup
June 21, 2013 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - LA Galaxy News Release
The LA Galaxy Academy U-12's and U-13's both added hardware to the Academy's trophy case over the weekend as each team took home first place in the 3rd Annual Swallows Cup, which was held in San Juan Capistrano.
The Swallows Cup final for the U-12's was an all-Galaxy affair with the LA Galaxy South team edging the LA Galaxy North team 3-2. The U-12 competition was set up a little differently from the U-13's, having divided six teams into two brackets while separating the Galaxy U-12 sides into opposite groups. The Galaxy South side was paired with United FC Black and California Premier Capo FC Black while Galaxy North drew FC Impact Orange and United FC Red. The Galaxy South cruised into the semifinals by shutting out California Premier, 4-0, after beating United FC Black, 3-1, on Saturday. The Galaxy North experienced similar results with a 3-1 win over FC Impact Orange followed by 2-0 shutout win over United FC Red. The semifinals on Sunday saw the Galaxy North rout United FC Black 5-0 as the Galaxy South trumped United FC Red 3-0 to set up the All-Galaxy finale.
The Galaxy U-13's competed in a four-team group that included PVSC Exiles Black, Newport Mesa Waves and LA Premier FC. Each of the four teams faced one another prior to the top two sides advancing and playing for the championship on Sunday. Saturday saw the U-13's blank PVSC 4-0 before falling to the Newport Mesa Waves later in the afternoon 2-1. But the Galaxy responded strongly on Sunday by beating LA Premier FC 10-0 to earn a rematch against Newport in the final. There, LA successfully avenged the loss from the day before and capped off a perfect afternoon by beating Newport 3-1 to lift the U-13 Swallows Cup title.
