Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

LAST GAME: The B-Mets split a doubleheader against Richmond on Wednesday. They dropped the first game, 3-2 in eight innings. Binghamton couldn't take advantage of five walks in the first two innings, and were limited to four hits in the loss. Both runs came in with an Allan Dykstra two-run home run in the third. Richmond's Allan Susac won the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Binghamton came out swinging in game two and beat Richmond, 8-1. The first five batters of the game reached base, and the team never looked back. Dykstra hit his second home run of the day, and Cesar Puello went 3-for-3 with two RBI to earn the split. Darin Gorski allowed one run in five innings to pick up his first Double-A victory of the season.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Cory Mazzoni makes his ninth start of the season for the B-Mets. In his last start, June 14 vs. Bowie, he was tagged with his second loss after allowing five runs and eight hits in 6.0 innings. That was the second-most hits the righty has allowed this season. In 2013, opponents are hitting .282 against Mazzoni in his second year with the B-Mets. In 2012, he went 5-5 in 14 starts. Mazzoni made one start against Richmond, and gave up three runs in 7.0 innings in a loss. On the road this season, Mazzoni is 1-1 with a 4.40 ERA in three starts. Earlier this season he missed 24 games on the DL with right elbow neuritis.

RICHMOND STARTING PITCHER: LHP Chris Gloor makes his 13th start of the season for the Flying Squirrels. In his last start, he received a no-decision against Reading but was very good. The lefty did not allow a run in 7.1 innings and gave up only four hits. After losing his first decision of the season, Gloor has won each of his last five. Opponents are hitting .250 against him, and he has only walked 18 batters in 70.2 innings. At home, Gloor is 3-0 in seven starts. In three starts in June, he has allowed five runs in 20.1 innings on the mound.

DH SPLIT: After Wednesday's doubleheader, Binghamton has now split both doubleheaders they have played in 2013. Against Harrisburg on May 12, they lost the first game before winning the final game.

DOMINANT IN JUNE: The B-Mets are 12-3 through the first 15 games of June. As a team they are hitting .293 this month. Cesar Puello (.525) and Allan Dykstra (.415) have the top two batting averages in the league during June. Despite missing four games with a finger injury, Puello also leads the league this month with 17 RBI. Dykstra is second in the league with 16 RBI, and Danny Muno is tied for third with 14 RBI. On the mound, Binghamton has posted a team ERA of 2.73.

RUBBER MATCH: Binghamton is 6-2 in rubber matches this season, and they have won six straight. A win on Thursday would give the team their seventh straight series win. The B-Mets haven't lost a series since going 1-2 against Trenton from May 6-8. The last B-Met rubber match was Sunday 6/16 vs. Bowie, when Binghamton won 5-4 with a Joe Bonfe walk-off home run.

DIVISION LEAD: Entering play on Thursday, Binghamton has a 7.0 game lead in the Eastern Division over the Portland Sea Dogs. That is the largest division lead they have had in 2013. Binghamton has been in first place since May 27, and has had sole possession of the division lead since June 1.

PUELLO PICKS UP: After missing four games with a finger injury, Cesar Puello came back on Wednesday and went 4-for-7 with two RBI, and four runs scored. He leads the team with a .338 batting average, 14 home runs, and 48 RBI. He is also ranked in top five in the league in each of those categories.
