Bay Sox Top Military All-Stars

June 19, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
New Bedford Bay Sox News Release

It was a fun-filled Wednesday night at Paul Walsh Field as the New Bedford Bay Sox hosted the Military All-Star travelling team in an exhibition game.

The Bay Sox got the victory but the real winners were the fans that got to experience the spectacle.

The Military All-Stars put on a full pre-game ceremony honoring the veterans and fallen heroes of our country. They added some on-field entertainment for the fans and paused the game for a special September 11th ceremony at 9:11 pm EST.

The Bay Sox strong pitching took care of the actual game.

New Bedford threw six different pitchers and only allowed two runs on five hits and ten strikeouts.

The Bay Sox started the scoring in the top of the first when Chris Shaw (Boston College) doubled to left field scoring Carl Anderson (Bryant) and Jake Salpietro (Fairfield).

Bay Sox pitching didn't allow a hit until the top of the third and they didn't allow a run until the sixth.

Dalton Martinez started the inning with a leadoff single. He stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A Karl Seiters groundout to second brought Martinez in to make it 2-1.

The next half inning the Bay Sox got a run back on a Matt Lopez (San Jose St.) double down the right field line to score Salpietro and make it 3-1.

The All-Stars got one run back in the eighth before Kurt Seiders (Millersville) shut them down to get the save in the ninth.

The Bay Sox take the win 3-2 and return to NECBL play on Friday against Vermont.
