Willmar Stingers Take Down Rox 6-1

Willmar, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox traveled to Willmar Friday night to take on the Stingers to round out their six game road stint. The Rox took an early lead but could not hold on as they fell 6-1 to Willmar.

In the top of the first the Rox' Chris Paul got the bats going as he hit a lead off double. With two outs for the Rox it was Adam Martin posting a RBI double scoring Paul to take a 1-0 lead over the Stingers. Conor Keniry followed with a single and Dustin Breshears earned a walk to load the bases. St. Cloud was unable to capitalize as Eric Loxtercamp grounded out to third recording the third out.

The Rox were able to hold Willmar from scoring until the bottom of the third when they took a 3-1 lead off a three run home run by Michael Suchy.

The Stingers would extend their lead in the bottom of the seventh by a score of 5-1 including a one run home run. They would then seal a 6-1 victory in the bottom of the eighth over the Rox off a sacrifice fly out to center field.

On the mound for the Rox was Kyle Davis as he pitched 6.0 innings of work and was later relieved by Reese Gregory (Fr., St. Cloud State University) for two innings. Davis now moves his record to 2-1 on the season.

The St. Cloud Rox lead the Northwoods League in runs scored and hits as well as second in the league for RBIs and batting average.

The Rox (8-9, 8-9 North) will be back in action on Saturday as they play host to the Stingers after being on the road for the past six days. The first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. at Joe Faber Field.

Saturday will be a Baseball Glove Giveaway presented by Central Minnesota Credit Union with the first 250 kids 12 and under receiving the giveaway. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. so show up early and play catch on the field from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It will also be "Ultimate Saturdays" where if you bring your ticket to the Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill after Saturday's home game you will receive a buy one, get one free drink of your choice (only redeemable the night of the game). Ultimate Sports Bar & Grill is located at 1101 Division St. in Waite Park.

The Rox' Sunday's game will be a Father's Day and Men's Health Day presented by Adult & Pediatric Urology. The first 250 kids 12 and under will receive a blue baseball. There will also be a player jersey auction with all proceeds benefiting Men's Health. Coborn's Kids' Day is on Sunday as kids will have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs on the field after the game.
