Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - Tayler Scott excelled through 7.2 innings while Albert Almora provided the offensive boost to lift the Kane County Cougars to a 4-1 victory over the Burlington Bees on Thursday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Scott (4-2) held the Bees (24-37) to just two hits during the longest outing of the season by any Cougars (29-34) pitcher. Sherman Johnson walked in the fourth inning and scored on a two-base from Wade Hinkle which was the only run Burlington was able to manage.
Almora did the rest of the work for the Cougars as he put them on the board in the bottom of the third. Bijan Rademacher walked and cruised to the dish when Almora punched a triple into right-center field. After Burlington evened the score at 1-1 in the fourth, Almora helped the Cougars regain the advantage in the fifth.
Brad Zapenas singled to start the frame against Alex Keudell (4-3) and took third on a throwing error by the pitcher. After another Rademacher free pass, Almora singled to left, scoring Zapenas to put the Cougars up, 2-1.
In the seventh, Rademacher singled agianst Cam Bedrosian with one out and scored all the way from first on a double to the left field corner from Almora. Almora crossed the dish when Dan Vogelbach grounded out to second to cap the scoring.
Scott was pulled with two outs and the bases clear in the eighth after he retired the last 10 consecutive Bees that he faced. Stephen Perakslis (S, 2) allowed back-to-back singles to the first two batters that he went up against before retiring the last four to end the ballgame.
The Cougars host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Friday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark with a 6:30 first pitch. Left-hander Michael Heesch starts for the Cougars. For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
