Dragons Announce Roster Changes

DAYTON, OHIO - The Dayton Dragons announced the following roster changes today:

Right-handed pitcher Mike Saunders and infielder Sammy Diaz have been promoted to Dayton from extended spring training.

Right-handed pitcher Wes Mugarian has been placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain.

Infielder Brent Peterson has been sent from Dayton to extended spring training.

The Dragons roster currently stands at the Midwest League limit of 25 players.

A new roster is attached.

Saunders, 22, is a product of Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan. He was signed by the Reds after being selected in the 24th round of the 2012 draft. He split the 2012 season between Billings and Goodyear, posting a record of 3-0 with a 3.05 earned run average in 18 games (two starts). He has not pitched this season.

Saunders had a spectacular college season in 2012 at Saginaw Valley State, notching eight complete games in 10 starts while posting a record of 7-2 with a 1.23 ERA that ranked second in the nation in NCAA Division II.

Diaz, 22, has appeared in 33 games with the Dragons in previous seasons. He played in six games in 2010 and 27 in 2012. Last season with the Dragons, Diaz batted .266 with one home run and 16 runs batted in. He appeared in six games earlier this season with the Reds Advanced-A club, Bakersfield, batting .200. He has a career batting average of .282 in five seasons in the Reds organization. He is a native of Venezuela.

Mugarian has appeared in 12 games with the Dragons this season, going 0-1 with a 5.46 ERA.

Peterson has played in 34 games, batting .227 with no home runs and five runs batted in.
