LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Carlos Peguero collected three hits and drove in five runs as the Tacoma Rainiers topped the Las Vegas 51s 10-7 at Cashman Field on Monday.
Peguero stretched Tacoma's 3-1 lead to four runs after lining an RBI double in the top of the third inning. The outfielder hit a two-out, three-run home in the sixth - his ninth of the season - and then rounded out his night with an RBI single in the eighth.
As a team, the Rainiers collected a combined 12 hits in the team's series opener at Las Vegas, with Stefen Romero, Dustin Ackley and Eric Thames each contributing two-hit efforts. Romero provided Tacoma an initial 1-0 lead after doubling home Dustin Ackley with two outs in the first inning.
Ackley went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored to stretch his hitting streak to 11 games. The second baseman is now batting .423 through his first 12 games since joining the Rainiers on May 28.
Shortstop Brad Miller also extended his hitting streak to 11 games after lining a single in the fourth inning. Miller is batting .404 with 13 runs scored, six extra-base hits and 16 RBI since beginning the streak on May 29.
Starter Hector Noesi limited the 51s to five runs, three earned, on seven hits on the way to collecting his first win in his second turn in the Rainiers rotation this season. Right-hander Logan Bawcom struck out two over a perfect inning of work in the ninth and collected his team-leading 11th save of the year.
At 39-26, Tacoma's owns the best record in the Pacific Coast League and boasts a 3.5-game lead over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox for first place in the PCL Pacific Northern Division.
The Rainiers take the field for the second game of the team's four-game series at Las Vegas (33-29) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, June 10. Right-hander Brian Sweeney (7-1, 3.50) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against 51s right-hander Collin McHugh (3-2, 2.74).
