Love Looks Solid in Return; Bees Fall 5-1

June 10, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

Brandon Love returned to the mound for the first time in over a month and delivered five innings of one-run ball, but the Burlington Bees fell 5-1 to the Beloit Snappers on Monday night.

If tonight was a sign of things to come, there is a bright spot at the end of the tunnel for the Bees rotation. Brandon Love (1-3) made his first start since May 5th and did not skip a beat. He did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and only allowed two hits, while striking out a season-high five batters.

The Bees (23-36) and Snappers (39-25) exchanged zeroes through the first three innings, but Beloit finally broke through in the fourth against Love. Bruce Maxwell led of the inning with a single and moved to third on John Wooten's double. Matt Olson reached on a fielder's choice with one out, scoring Maxwell from third. Love worked out of the jam only allowing one run.

Leaving men on base was a trend for both teams. The Bees put men on at first and second with no outs in the third and fifth innings, but could not score a run. Burlington and Beloit both ended the night 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position, with the Bees leaving 12 on base and the Snappers stranding seven baserunners.

Beloit added to its 1-0 lead in the sixth when Wooten tripled off of Aaron Newcomb to bring home Maxwell. Newcomb allowed two more runs in the eighth when Renato Nunez picked up a 2-run double.

Dakota Bacus (5-2) returned to Burlington, where he played his college ball at Southeastern Community College, and worked five scoreless innings. Austin House allowed one run in his four innings to pick up his second save of the season.

The Bees finished the first half with a 9-22 record at home. Burlington has now lost five games in a row and will try to end its losing streak when it hits the road for a three-game series in Kane County and a four-game series at Quad Cities.
