Alexandria Aces News Release

ALEXANDRIA, La. - The Alexandria Aces have signed outfielder Chad Bunting.

A right-handed hitter who can fill in as a catcher if needed, Bunting was part of the legendary 2011 Golden Bears team that went from having the school announce they were dropping baseball at the beginning of the season to advancing to the College World Series at the end of it, helping save the program.

That season Bunting hit .276 and hit seven home runs in 34 games. In four years at Berkley Bunting hit .279 with 22 home runs and 98 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 139 games. His best season for average was in 2010 when he hit .325, and he also hit nine homers in 2012.

Following his career at Cal Bunting played for the San Rafael Pacifics of the North American Baseball League batting .292 in 11 games last year. The United League was known as the NABL in 2012.

Manager Von Hayes has hinted at Bunting having a strong throwing arm and may use him in right and center field.

To make room for on the roster, the Aces have released outfielder Eldred Barnett. Barnett was a fine hitter at Grambling and played for two years in the San Francisco Giants organization, but hit only .161 with one home run and RBI. He was tied for the team lead in stolen bases with three.
