Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.-The Fort Wayne TinCaps took advantage of two errors leading to three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come from behind and defeat the Dayton Dragons 5-3 on Sunday afternoon. The win extended Fort Wayne's winning streak to seven straight and improved their record to 38-23. The Dragons fell to 26-36 with the loss.

Dayton took a 3-2 lead with a run in the top of the eighth inning when Joe Terry singled with one out, stole second, and scored on Zach Vincej's double to break a 2-2 tie. But Fort Wayne battled back in the bottom of the inning. Rodney Daal walked to start the inning and went to second on a throwing error by Dayton catcher Brandon Dailey on a bunt play. Dragons reliever Wandy Peralta then committed a balk to move runners to second and third with no one out. Peralta struck out Mallex Smith and was replaced by Sean Lucas, who then struck out Corey Adamson for the second out. Lucas walked the next batter to load the bases. Diego Goris followed with a line drive at Vincej, the Dragons all-star shortstop who leads the league in fielding percentage. But the ball deflected off Vincej's glove for an error as two runs scored to give Fort Wayne a 4-3 lead. Luis Tejada followed with a run-scoring single to close out the scoring.

Dragons starting pitcher Nick Travieso worked the first five innings, allowing two runs (one earned). He gave up seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Tony Amezcua replaced Travieso to start the sixth inning and worked two scoreless frames, allowing one hit with no walks and one strikeout.

Peralta (1-5) was charged with the loss. He entered the game to start the bottom of the eighth and recorded one out. He was charged with two unearned runs, allowing a walk and committing a balk while notching a strikeout. Lucas worked two-thirds of an inning, allowing one unearned run. He gave up one hit and one walk and had a strikeout.

The Dragons finished with eight hits. Vincej, who went 4 for 4 on Friday, was 2 for 2 including a double with two walks, a stolen base, a run scored, and an RBI. Dailey and Beau Amaral also had two hits for Dayton.

The Dragons battle the TinCaps in the finale of the three-game series on Monday at 7:05 p.m. Drew Cisco (2-3, 3.32) will start for Dayton against Fort Wayne's Justin Hancock (3-1, 1.91). The Dragons return home to Fifth Third Field to open a three-game series with Bowling Green on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at daytondragons.com and wone.com.
