Greenville Drive News Release

Be it a suspended game or a regularly scheduled game, the Greenville Drive (19-39) offense was locked in on Friday night, as they picked up a 10-5 win in the nightcap over the Hickory Crawdads (32-27) at Fluor Field. In the resumption of the suspended game from May 22nd in Hickory, the Drive won a 17-8 decision.

Down 3-0 in the bottom of the second, the Drive scored three runs to tie the game up. Cody Koback hit an RBI single to right, Aneury Tavarez drove an RBI triple to right and Bryan Johns hit a sacrifice fly.

David Chester hit a laser over the wall in left-center for a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to give the Drive a 5-4 lead. Chester becomes the first Drive batter to reach double digit home runs in 2013.

The Drive got another run home in the fourth on a wild pitch, and Alex Hassan later hit a two-run single to add to the lead.

Gerardo Olivares (1-1) picked up the victory with three scoreless innings of relief, while Tyler Smith (4-4) took the loss.

Mookie Betts, Tavarez and Drew Turocy collected two hits apiece in the nightcap, while Lewis Brinson, Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara did the same for Hickory.

The first game picked up in the top of the third with the game tied at 3-3 and the bases loaded for the Drive. Hassan quickly erased the tie, as he lined a three-run double into the right field corner to give the Drive the lead for good.

The Drive added five more runs in the fourth inning to stretch the lead even further. Tavarez hit an RBI double to right to score the first run, while a fielder's choice grounder by Mario Martinez scored another. Turocy followed with a two-run triple off the wall in center, and he came in to score on Boss Moanaroa's groundout to second.

The lead was extended to 14-3 in the sixth, as Turocy and Moanaroa each laced RBI doubles, while Jayson Hernandez singled into right to score the third run.

Hickory answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, with the highlight being Nick Williams smacking a three-run homer to right-center against Austin Maddox.

The Drive added three more runs in the seventh to keep the slugfest going. Martinez hit an RBI single to second base, while a fielder's choice and an error scored the Drive's final two runs of the game.

Brinson drove a solo homer to left in the bottom of the ninth to cap the scoring for the Crawdads.

Yunior Ortega (1-2) got the win for the Drive, while Smith (4-3), who started the game on May 22nd but didn't pitch in the resumption of the suspended game, received the loss.

Hassan led Greenville's 20-hit attack with three hits and four RBIs. Turocy picked up three hits and three RBIs while scoring four runs, and Tavarez had three hits and three RBIs of his own. Johns, Koback, Martinez and Moanaroa all collected two hits, with Martinez scoring four times.

The same two teams will meet again at Fluor Field on Saturday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05. RHP Luis Diaz (1-1, 2.38) gets the starting call for the Drive, while the Crawdads will counter with LHP Luis Parra (0-1, 0.95).
