Crowley Twirls Gem in 9-0 Shutout

June 6, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

Ryan Crowley continued his impressive 2013 campaign, firing seven scoreless innings, helping the Burlington Bees blank the Kane County Cougars 9-0 on Thursday night at Community Field.

One day after being named to the Midwest League all-star team, Crowley (5-1) shined bright, tossing seven innings of four-hit ball. In the outing, the southpaw lowered his earned run average to 1.94. Crowley has not allowed a run in his last three outings, spanning 20 innings.

The Bees (23-31) offense broke out against the Cougars (26-31), scoring five runs in the fourth and two in the sixth and eighth innings. It's the fourth time in the last five games that the Bees have scored six runs or more.

Jose Rosario (0-2) took the mound for Kane County and threw three hitless innings before running into major trouble in the fourth because of a defensive error.

Kyle Johnson led off the fourth with a walk and advanced to third on a single by Wade Hinkle. Michael Bolaski's groundout brought home Johnson and moved Hinkle to second base. Hinkle advanced to third on a groundout by Chevy Clarke. Rosario thought he was going to get out of the inning when Pedro Toribio hit a ball to Marco Hernandez at shortstop, but he bobbled the ball and allowed Toribio to reach and Hinkle to score from third. It all unraveled for Rosario from there as Andrew Ray and Anthony Bemboom belted consecutive doubles and Soto followed with a triple. Bemboom's double scored Toribio and Ray, while Soto's triple brought home Bemboom.

The Bees extended their 5-0 lead to 7-0 when Wendell Soto and Sherman Johnson scored on a wild pitch. Johnson came home all the way from second base on the wild pitch. Burlington added two more in the eighth on a two-run double by Kyle Johnson.

In tonight's game, Hinkle had three hits, while Ray, Bemboom and Soto each had two hits. Kyle Johnson and Bemboom had two RBIs apiece in the victory.

Kurt Spomer and Austin Adams each delivered a scoreless inning in relief, as the Bees moved to 12-2 on the season when scoring six or more runs.

Burlington will look for the series win when Alex Keudell, the 2nd all-star for the Bees, takes on one of the six Cougars' all-stars, Taylor Scott. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Community Field.
