Former Cougars Pitcher Ian Krol Makes MLB Debut

GENEVA, IL - Pitcher Ian Krol, a member of the 2010 Kane County Cougars team, has made his Major League debut after pitching in relief during Wednesday night's game for Washington against the New York Mets. Krol is the 121st former Cougar to reach the majors and the first Cougars alumnus to make his major league debut this season.
Krol, a 2010 Midwest League All-Star as well as a post-season All-Star for the Cougars, pitched in 24 games at Kane County that season, going 9-4 with a 2.65 ERA before receiving a late-season promotion to Class-A Advanced Stockton. Krol was traded from the Oakland organization to Washington before this season and immediately blossomed. Opening the season at Double-A Harrisburg, the lefty made 21 appearances and turned in a remarkable 0.69 ERA - allowing just 2 earned runs in 26 innings before receiving a promotion to Washington.
The Cougars organization, which began in 1991 and is presently affiliated with the Chicago Cubs, has had at least one former player make a Major League debut in each season dating back to 1993. The list includes Major League All-Stars, World Series champions and former Rookies of the Year, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger award winners, and even a Triple Crown winner.
Notes on Krol - Krol, who attended Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, enjoyed coming to Cougars games as a youngster...Krol was the first-ever Cougars player who was not yet born when the Cougars organization played its first game in April of 1991...Krol becomes the second player from the '10 Cougars class to reach the majors, joining Oakland pitcher Dan Straily...Krol becomes the third former Cougar to make his major league debut with Washington, joining Brandon Harper ('98) and Corey Brown ('08). The last former Cougar to make the jump from Double-A to the major leagues was San Diego pitcher Tyson Ross ('08), who debuted with Oakland on April 7, 2010...Krol started for the Cougars when the team played Peoria at Wrigley Field in 2010.
