Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. "" Blake Johnson tossed seven dominating innings as the Albuquerque Isotopes handed the Memphis Redbirds a 2-0 shutout in the finale of a four-game series on Friday night at AutoZone Park.
Johnson (5-3) pitched his best performance of the season for the victory, scattering a pair of singles while striking out five over seven scoreless. Josh Wall converted his second save after Chad Withrow followed Johnson as the Redbirds were shutout for the third time in 2013.
The Isotopes took three of four from Memphis (27-26) in both series this season.
Kolten Wong and Greg Garcia accounted for both hits for the Redbirds on the evening, which was a new season-low. The club was unable to record an extra-base hit for the first time in 25 games since May 5.
Alex Castellanos led off the fourth inning with his eighth homer of the season to give the Isotopes a 1-0 advantage. Justin Sellers delivered a two-out RBI single in the seventh for the other run.
In his second Triple-A start, Richard Castillo (0-1) gave up two runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings for the hard-luck loss. He also walked three and struck out four in 97 pitches (58 for strikes).
Marc Rzepczynski gave up one hit in 1 1/3 innings. Michael Blazek fanned two in one frame in his Redbirds debut.
The Redbirds travel to face the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers in a ï¬Âve-game series over four days at Werner Park. Right-hander Scott McGregor (1-1, 4.91) will take the mound for the Redbirds against left-hander Omaha Justin Marks (1-3, 5.54) in the opener.
Baseball returns to AutoZone Park on Thursday, June 6, when Memphis welcomes the cross-state rival Nashville Sounds (Triple-A Brewers) and the New Orleans Zephyrs (Triple-A Marlins) for a 10-game, eight-day homestand.
