Sky Sox Top Rainiers 10-8

May 31, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

After losing the first two games of the series, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (31-21) bounced back and defeated the Tacoma Rainiers by the score of 10-8 on Thursday evening at Security Service Field in front of 3,837 fans. The series now sits a 2-1 in favor of Tacoma with the series finale set up for tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. The Sox now trail the Rainiers by a half game in the Pacific Northern Standings.

Tacoma got out to a 1-0 led in the first on an RBI single by catcher Mike Zunino but the Sky Sox wasted no time in tying it up. Sox outfielder Corey Dickerson crushed a leadoff homer to right off Jonathan Arias (L, 0-1) to knot it at one all. It was Dickerson's seventh home run of the season and the start to a huge night for the young hitter.

Dickerson was also a part of the scoring in the second inning when the Sox put up five runs to take a 6-1 lead. Dickerson smacked the first of his two triples on the night in the frame, driving in two, and later scored on a RBI groundout by Josh Rutledge. Tyler Colvin and Drew Garcia each had RBI singles in the inning as well with Garcia's coming in his first Sky Sox at bat since being acquired in a trade with the White Sox earlier in the week.

Colvin struck again in the third as the Sox pulled out further in front. After Matt McBride doubled, Colvin blasted a two-run homer to dead center that hit off the batter's eye. Greg Golson then scored a run on his own as he tripled and then scored on a wild pitch making it 9-3 Sox.

The Sox scoring was capped off in the sixth as Dickerson plated Garcia with an RBI triple. Dickerson finished the night 3-for-4 with a homer, two triples, a walk, two runs scored and four RBI.

Tacoma did their best to battle back and made it a close game heading to the ninth down 10-7. Coty Woods came on to close it out but struggled with command. He walked two and hit another in the inning but only gave up one run as he notched his third save of the season. Mike McClendon (W: 3-2) picked up the win in relief of Cory Riordan after tossing two hitless, scoreless innings.

Game for tomorrow night will feature LH Drew Pomeranz (6-1, 4.02) for the Sky Sox versus RH Blake Beavan (3-2, 4.35).
