PawSox Storm by Tribe 9-1

May 28, 2013 - International League (IL1) - Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Three PawSox hurlers combined to hold Indianapolis (34-18) to just one run on four hits, while the Pawtucket (31-20) offense tied an Indians' opponent high with 12 base knocks highlighted by a solo homer from left fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and three RBI from catcher Dan Butler as the Sox took down the Tribe 9-1 on Monday night at Victory Field.

The dynamic duo of the De La's dominated the Tribe offense on Monday evening as starter Rubby De La Rosa (4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) and reliever Jose De La Torre (4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO) combined to hold the Tribe to just one run on four hits over 8.0 innings. Despite not earning the victory, De La Rosa continued his impressive streak of starts, as the hard-throwing right hander has now allowed just one earned run over his 22.0 innings pitched.

De La Torre followed De La Rosa's impressive effort with one of his own en route to earning the victory and improving to 2-0 on the season, while also lowering his ERA to a miniscule 1.42 (4 ER in 25.1 IP) over 13 relief appearances for the PawSox this season. RHP Anthony Carter (1.0 IP) finished out the victory for Pawtucket with a hitless ninth.

While the Pawtucket pitching staff held down the Tribe's bats, the PawSox offense tied an Indians' opponent season high with 14 hits. Pawtucket spread the wealth offensively as eight of nine starters scored at least one run, eight collected at least one hit and six drove in at least one run.

Butler got the PawSox on the board first, when he singled home former Ball State University outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker, who reached on a Tribe fielding error to lead off the frame. Indianapolis evened things up with their lone score of the contest in the third as RF Jerry Sands and DH Jeff Larish led off the frame with back-to-back base hits, before CF Alex Presley brought home Sands with a sacrifice fly.

The Pawtucket bats, however, came alive in the fourth as they tacked on four tallies to take a lead they would not relinquish. The frame began with the PawSox quickly loading the bases as Hazelbaker singled, CF Ronald Bermudez doubled and former Indians INF Brock Holt walked. Butler then plated two more scores when he lifted a double to left to bring home Hazelbaker and Bermudez and give the PawSox a 3-1 advantage.

The fourth-frame outburst continued as 2B Jonathan Diaz lined a single to center to score Holt, before another former Indians infielder 1B Drew Sutton brought home Butler with an RBI groundout to extend the Pawtucket advantage to 5-1

Bradley Jr. then added to the blow out by blasting another score on the board when he led off the sixth with his second homer of the season. The longball was part of a fantastic night for Bradley Jr., who went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and walk, as well as a multiple dynamic defensive plays in left.

Though they were unneeded, Pawtucket added three more insurance scores, beginning with an RBI base hit from Hazelbaker in the top of the seventh after 3B Brandon Snyder led off the frame with a triple to left. The PawSox then capped their scoring in the top of the ninth with a bases-loaded walk by Sutton and run-scoring force out off the bat of Bermudez.

Making a rehab start for the Indianapolis, RHP Charlie Morton (5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) suffered the loss to fall to 0-1 after allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits over 5.0 innings of work.

The Indians and PawSox will now face off in game two of the series on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Andy Oliver (3-2, 2.87) is expected to make the start for Indianapolis, while Pawtucket is scheduled to counter with RHP Terry Doyle (3-4, 4.63).

The contest will be televised on HTSN, Hometown Sports and News, available via cable or over-the-air on digital channel 6.2. The game will also be carried on WNDE 1260 AM, WNDE.com and via iheartradio, a mobile application for iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones with Howard Kellman and Will Flemming on the call. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
