The San Jose Earthquakes hit the road for a pair of games this week with the first stop in South Carolina for the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Earthquakes face the Charleston Battery on Tuesday, May 28 at Blackbaud Stadium. The match kicks off at 4:30 p.m. PT with a livestream available at www.uslnation.com. Next up is Real Salt Lake in league play at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, June 1. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. PT on Comcast SportsNet California, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KZSF.

San Jose's Record in June The Quakes are 31-19-16 all-time in June in MLS play.

Last Game FC Dallas 1, Earthquakes 0; May 25, 2013; FC Dallas Stadium, Frisco, Texas The Earthquakes fell 1-0 against Western Conference leading FC Dallas. San Jose outshot their hosts 17-10 and out-possessed them, but came up short thanks in part to several key saves from FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez. FC Dallas scored the game's only goal midway through the first half. David Ferreira carried the ball for half the length of the field on a counterattack before finding Fabian Castillo open on the right wing. Castillo cut back toward the goal and then placed a shot to the far post that narrowly eluded Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch. San Jose had its chances in the second half, including a pair from reigning Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player Chris Wondolowski. The first came in the 81st minute as Shea Salinas floated a cross to the back post where Wondolowski volleyed a shot that was bound for the net if not for a reaction save by Fernandez. He had another chance minutes later, sending a header low toward the near post, but Fernandez was again game to the challenge with a diving stop.

Charleston Battery Scouting Report The Battery (6-2-1, 19 pts.) enter Tuesday's U.S. Open Cup match second in the USL PRO standings. They are 3-0-1 at home this season including their latest result, a scoreless draw against the Rochester Rhinos. Nicki Paterson and Michael Azira lead the squad with three goals apiece while Paterson and Zach Prince pace the team with two assists each. They are 8-11 all-time against MLS squads in U.S. Open Cup play.

Real Salt Lake Scouting Report Real Salt Lake (6-5-3, 21 pts.) enter this weekend's game third in the Western Conference behind FC Dallas and the Portland Timbers. They are 3-1-1 in their last five with the lone loss coming against the Montreal Impact by a 3-2 score. Alvaro Saborio leads the team in goals with four while Joao Plata paces the squad with four assists.

Last Game vs. Real Salt Lake Real Salt Lake 2, Earthquakes 0; March 3, 2013; Buck Shaw Stadium, Santa Clara, Calif. The Earthquakes dropped their 2013 opener 2-0 against Real Salt Lake. Alvaro Saborio took care of the scoring for the visitors with a pair of second half goals. The Costa Rican striker polished off his first in the 71st minute thanks to a through ball from Joao Plata. Saborio got behind the San Jose defense and then struck a shot on the run past goalkeeper Jon Busch. Saborio doubled his haul in the 85th minute, this time receiving a pass from Kyle Beckerman before slotting his shot past Busch to cap the scoring. The Earthquakes had their chances, including a Chris Wondolowski shot that found the crossbar in the 15th minute. The 2012 Budweiser Golden Boot winner led San Jose with seven shots during the match.

History of the Quakes-Real Salt Lake Rivalry Real Salt Lake joined MLS as an expansion side prior to the 2005 campaign ... MISCELLANEOUS NOTES Earthquakes Face Charleston Battery in Third Round of 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup The Earthquakes will hit the road to face the Charleston Battery in the third round of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 28 at Blackbaud Stadium. Last year, the Earthquakes won their first two U.S. Open Cup games at Stanford's Cagan Stadium. They opened with a 2-1 comeback victory against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers (NASL) and knocked off Minnesota Stars FC (NASL) 1-0 in the fourth round before bowing out 1-0 against Seattle Sounders FC in the quarterfinals at San Francisco's Kezar Stadium. San Jose is 12-9 all-time in U.S. Open Cup play with a 9-3 mark on the road. The club has yet to face the Battery in nine years of participation in the tournament. The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest annual team tournament in American sports, dating back to 1914. The field includes teams from seven junctures of American soccer, including MLS, NASL, USL Pro, PDL, NPSL, USASA and US Club Soccer.

San Jose Faces Road Trip in Fourth Round of 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Should the Earthquakes defeat the Charleston Battery on Tuesday at Blackbaud Stadium in South Carolina, they will face the winner of Real Salt Lake and the Atlanta Silverbacks on the road on Wednesday, June 12. Real Salt Lake hosts Atlanta on Tuesday at Rio Tinto Stadium in third round action.

Yallop Aiming for 100th Win with Quakes Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop is approaching a major milestone, aiming to become the first head coach in club history to win 100 games. Yallop is 99-85-72 during his nine years with the Earthquakes. He began his career in 2001, leading San Jose to its first MLS Cup. He won the MLS Cup again with San Jose in 2003 before departing to coach the Canadian national team following the 2003 season. Yallop returned to the Earthquakes in 2008, their expansion season. Since his and the team's return, San Jose has twice qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs and won the Supporters' Shield trophy in 2012.

Earthquakes New Stadium Update The Earthquakes unveiled a number of new features for the club's stadium that is under construction at Coleman Ave. in San Jose. The team has added Game Day Clubs and has revealed that the seats in the new stadium will be blue. Additionally, the south end of the stadium will spell out ‘Quakes' in the seats. All of the new features can be viewed in the newly launched interactive 3D seat map at www.sjearthquakes.com. The Earthquakes also announced the arrival of a new stadium mobile viewing center that allows fans to experience the club's new venue in person. Appointments are available to drop by the mobile viewing center on game days or regular weekday business hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT by calling club headquarters at 408-556-7700. Additionally, the Earthquakes gave fans a way to keep tabs on the construction process through a live webcam stationed at the construction site. The StreamCam HD will provide live and archived footage to fans at www.sjearthquakes.com and will collect images for a timelapse video of the completed project when the stadium opens, courtesy of EarthCam.

Bernardez, Chavez Called to Honduras Duty Earthquakes defender Victor Bernardez and midfielder Marvin Chavez have been called up to the Honduran national team ahead of a friendly match and three 2014 World Cup qualifiers in June. The Hondurans take on Israel on June 2 in a friendly at home, before playing three key qualifiers. The face Central American rival, Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica on June 7, before hosting Jamaica on June 11 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The play their fourth match at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah on June 18 against the United States. Bernardez, 30, has a total of 64 career caps with Los Catrachos. He started for Honduras in a 2-2 draw against Mexico on March 22 and played all 90 minutes in the 2-0 loss against Panama on March 26 in the last round of qualifying matches. The 2012 MLS Best XI selection has been a mainstay on the back line for his home country during the qualification process. He started each of Honduras' six games in group play during the third round of CONCACAF qualifying, scoring a goal in a 3-0 win against Cuba on Sept. 7, 2012. Chavez, 29, has four goals in 30 appearances for his country. He played in two matches during the third round of qualifying and also scored in Los Catrachos' 3-0 win against Cuba. The speedy winger recently scored his first goal this season for the Earthquakes, a dramatic equalizer against the Colorado Rapids on May 18.

Iron Men The San Jose Earthquakes currently have two players that have played every minute of all 14 matches this season, Chris Wondolowski and Jon Busch. They have played 1,260 minutes. Midfielder Sam Cronin has started every game and missed only 34 minutes of action this season.

Attakora Out of Canada Camp After being initially named to the roster, Quakes defender Nana Attakora withdrew from Canadian National Team camp as the Canadians prepare to face Costa Rica on May 28 in Edmonton due to injury (concussion).

Earthquakes to Induct Gabbo Gavric, Peter Bridgwater to Club's Hall of Fame Former defender Momcilo "Gabbo" Gavric and former president Peter Bridgwater have been voted into the Earthquakes Hall of Fame. The pair of soccer legends will be inducted in a ceremony during halftime of San Jose's match on July 27 against the Portland Timbers. For more information about the duo, click here.

Earthquakes 5K/10K Challenge The club will host its second annual Earthquakes 5K/10K Challenge, benefiting The Health Trust of Silicon Valley and the San Jose Earthquakes Community Fund, on Sunday, Aug. 18. More information and a registration link are available at www.quakeschallenge.com. The 5K/10K Challenge begins at 8 a.m. with three options for runners of all ages. The club is offering an Early Bird Registration Special of $45 for the 10K, $30 for the 5K, and $20 for the Kids Fun Run (ages 12 and under). Prices will go up starting June 1 so fans are encouraged to sign up early. All participants receive a race t-shirt and access to a post-race celebration. The event is co-produced by Threshold Racing and Firstwave Events, the same companies that organize the San Jose Turkey Trot, Santa Cruz Half Marathon, and the San Jose Metro Triathlon.

T-Mobile 4G Power Zone Back for 2013 The Earthquakes have teamed with T-Mobile for the second year in a row to create the "T-Mobile 4G Power Zone" at all home games for the 2013 season. The promotion will give fans the opportunity to purchase great seats for only $17 - a discount of $10 off the day-of-game price, the most affordable Earthquakes tickets available to the public. Through the agreement, T-Mobile has rebranded the Corner Flag Section 107 at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara as the "T-Mobile 4G Power Zone." Wells Fargo Goals for Education Wells Fargo has again pledged to donate $250 for each goal the Earthquakes score in 2013 through the Goals for Education program. The club has raised $3,250 so far this season thanks to 13 goals. The Earthquakes raised $18,000 in 2012 after scoring a club record 72 goals
