San Jose Earthquakes News Release

FRISCO, Texas - The San Jose Earthquakes fell 1-0 against Western Conference leading FC Dallas on Saturday. San Jose outshot their hosts 17-10 and out-possessed them, but came up short thanks in part to several key saves from FC Dallas goalkeeper Raul Fernandez.

FC Dallas (8-2-3, 27 pts.) scored the game's only goal midway through the first half. David Ferreira carried the ball for half the length of the field on a counterattack before finding Fabian Castillo open on the right wing. Castillo cut back toward the goal and then placed a shot to the far post that narrowly eluded Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch.

San Jose (3-5-6, 15 pts.) had its chances in the second half, including a pair from reigning Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player Chris Wondolowski. The first came in the 81st minute as Shea Salinas floated a cross to the back post where Wondolowski volleyed a shot that was bound for the net if not for a reaction save by Fernandez. Wondolowski had another chance minutes later, sending a header low toward the near post, but Fernandez was again game to the challenge with a diving stop.

The Earthquakes return to action on Tuesday, May 28 against the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium in South Carolina for the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is 4:30 p.m. PT with a livestream available at www.uslnation.com (http://www.uslnation.com/) . San Jose's next MLS match is Saturday, June 1 against Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium. That game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. PT on Comcast SportsNet California, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KZSF.
