Greenville Drive News Release

Charleston was a new destination for the Greenville Drive (13-33), but even a new place couldn't cure the road woes, as they dropped the series-opener to the Charleston RiverDogs (27-17) 12-7 on Thursday night.

The RiverDogs scored six runs in the bottom of the first against Drive starter Cody Kukuk (2-6) and didn't look back. A combination of walks and infield errors scored the first four, and Jake Cave's two-run single extended the lead to 6-0.

The Drive got three of those runs back in the top of the third, as a Mookie Betts single scored a run and an error scored two more.

Charleston came right back with two runs in the bottom half of the third on Peter O'Brien's sacrifice fly and Dante Bichette, Jr.'s RBI single. They also scored single runs in the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

The Drive added a single run in the fourth, and they got three more in the eighth on an RBI double by Cody Koback and a two-run single from David Chester.

Cave led the way at the plate for Charleston by going 3-4 with four RBIs. Kelvin De Leon added three hits, including a solo homer, while Taylor Dugas collected a pair of hits. Betts had a 3-5 night to push his hitting streak up to 17 games, the longest streak in the South Atlantic League this season. Chester added a pair of hits.

The same two teams will meet Friday night in Charleston, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05. The Drive's starting pitcher is yet to be determined, while the RiverDogs will send LHP Daniel Camarena (0-2, 7.75) to the mound.
