Stampeders Sign Draft Picks

May 21, 2013 - Canadian Football League (CFL) Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel are pleased to announce that four non-imports - defensive lineman Ben D'Aguilar, receiver Yannick Morin-Plante, fullback Charlie Power and offensive lineman Shane Bergman - have signed with the team. As per club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

All four players were chosen by the Stampeders in the 2013 CFL Canadian Draft.

D'Aguilar, the Stamps' second-round selection (13th overall), is a six-foot-two, 240-lb. McMaster product who won the J.P. Metras Trophy in 2012 as the top lineman in Canadian University football. He was named an all-Canadian last season and set a CIS record by recording 12.5 sacks.

Morin-Plante is a speedy receiver who was selected in the third round (25th overall). He posted the third-fastest time at the CFL combine, clocking in at 4.534 seconds. Morin-Plante had 17 catches for the Rouge et Or in 2012 for 150 yards and one touchdown and was part of Laval's Vanier Cup championship team.

Power is an Okotoks product who was chosen in the fourth round (28th overall). After starting his university career at Saskatchewan on the defensive side of the ball as a linebacker, Power switched to offence in 2012 and saw action as a hybrid slotback/fullback. He made 18 catches for 231 yards and two touchdowns for the Huskies last year. Powers attended Okotoks' Holy Trinity Academy and was the school's defensive player of the year on three occasions.

Bergman is a six-foot-seven, 352-lb. offensive lineman out of Western who was chosen in the sixth round (48th overall). He was part of a Western offensive unit that led the country with 289.1 rushing yards per game in 2012 and allowed Garret Sanvido to rush for a CIS-best 1,001 yards. The Mustangs were third in total offence with 40.9 points and 535.1 yards per contest.

In other transaction news, the Stampeders have released six imports - defensive linemen Markell Carter, Wayne Dorsey and Alex Watkins, linebacker Demetri Stewart and defensive backs Jeremy Caldwell and Gary Wilburn.
