Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, Calif. - Four home runs helped power the Fresno Grizzlies' winning streak to a season-high five games as they defeated the Oklahoma City RedHawks 10-3 on Monday at Chukchansi Park. The Grizzlies improve to 26-19 on the season.

The home run brigade was initiated in the third inning when Roger Kieschnick and MLB rehabber Tony Abreu hit back-to-back two-out home runs to give the Grizzlies a 3-0 lead. The consecutive homers by Kieschnick and Abreu were the third time this season Fresno has registered back-to-back roundtrippers.

In the fifth, Johnny Monell hit his sixth home run of the season with a three-run shot to right field. Gary Brown hit his second home run of the year - and first at Chukchansi Park - in the sixth inning to make it 9-2.

The Grizzlies have now homered in 11 straight games. The four home runs also fell one short of matching Fresno's season-high for homers in a single game.

With the offense providing plenty of power, the Grizzlies pitching staff did not relent, led by starter Mitch Lively. The right-hander made his first career start and allowed just one run over a career-high five innings pitched.

The one run allowed by Lively was in his final inning of work. Carlos Perez reached with a leadoff double and later scored on Jake Elmore's sacrifice fly in foul ground of right field.

Mason Tobin and Brett Bochy each tossed two innings of relief for Fresno. Both right-handers allowed a single run. The Grizzlies pitching staff has a 2.10 ERA over the last eight games.

In addition to the back-to-back home runs, the Grizzlies also recorded back-to-back triples. Chris Dominguez led off the fourth inning with a triple and Carter Jurica followed with a triple of his own to plate Dominguez. Kensuke Tanaka later scored Jurica with a sacrifice fly that made it 5-0 Grizzlies.

Monell hit a ground-rule double in the seventh inning to plate his fourth RBI of the game and give the Grizzlies a 10-2 lead.

Brett Pill had three singles and a walk. He is 7-for-11 in his three games with Fresno since being optioned from San Francisco. His second hit of the game, a two-out single, extended the third inning to bring Kieschnick to the plate.

Abreu finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and hit by pitch in addition to his RBI. He was added to the Grizzlies' roster on his second MLB Rehab of the season prior to Monday's game.

Asher Wojciechowski suffered the loss for Oklahoma City after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits over five innings.

The Grizzlies finished with 13 hits, seven of which were for extra bases.

Fresno has also won six straight games at Chukchansi Park.

The Grizzlies and RedHawks will meet for game two of the four-game series on Tuesday at 11:05 am. Right-hander Chris Heston will start for the Grizzlies and face the RedHawks' left-hander Brett Oberholtzer.
